3rd person character control out?
One of the most unique things about past games is that you could play as your Hero character manually, is that not a thing in the new game?

No 3rd person view but you can control your hero with arrow keys.

Arrow keys only, and you have to toggle direct movement on the button in the upper left corner.
The camera is not optimal for that yet and movement does not feel smooth.
WASD wont work as these are the quickbuttons for hero skills.

So instead of going with 3rd person character movement its just a straight RTS ... shame.

Well, as this is often asked I would not completely forget about it. Maybe the devs gonna put it in.
When they fix the camera position on direct control its not much different from SF1.
They dont have to get that low with the (viewing-)angle, but definitely let us see a bit further.
Guess it can be limited to PVE (singeplayer) only, if they dont want you to scout for your enemy in skirmish.

Did anyone even play SF1 in 3rd person mode?
I spent at best 1% of the time in that mode. Just enjoyed some views in peaceful times, and that's it. It was a rather bad/uncomfortable view for playing.

Yeah I always did I loved running in with my full army following behind etc it was fun, but when it got more diffcult I would have to jump out and sort out what was happening then jump back in to 3rd persion mode etc, so I spent a lot time in it etc.

Plus I liked to walk around my army in 3rd person before I left a map, kind of a way of saying bye and thanking them for what they been through etc, It made the game seem more alive etc

if I wasnt commanding my base or commanding troops without my hero then I was in 3rd person, spent most of both games in that view, I loved it and it was what sperated this game from other RTS's for me, allowed you to feel like you were part of the action, it would be a damn shame if it wasnt a feature in this game

I liked the 3rd Person view, because for me it made the game so much more immersive! :Attacked:

Yep i played in third person mode too..like Dukoth said ..its what seperated it from other rts games..minus battlezone 2

Many only played it because the 3rd person made it different from other RTS games... now that 3rd person is gone, sales will suffer. I for one won't be buying it after being a supporter of the series from 1 (when it originally released)

This needs to be added. I certainly hope it's implemented in time for release. It will be a huge disappointment for fans of the series if not.

if the game is a good made rts , game wont suffer early access wether with 3rd or no 3rd view , early beta looking good though , i honestly hate heroes in rts , thx god spellforce didn't make them like daw 3 one man army

I don't see the need for a 3rd person mode. It was never more than a gimmick in SF1 and SF2. Something I played around with when there wasn't any actual action going on. I'm not going to miss it much.

Here. I enjoyed playing it in the Third-Person View since some of the Maps did really look very good.

And specially since some of the new Maps from SpellForce 3 are awesome designed I am missing that feature a lot.

Missing 3rd person view will be not big deal for battles but it will affect a lot immersion for exploring maps and dialogs. I finished SF2 year ago and this was one of the main things for which I played it. And some graphics glitches really didn't matter.
