Having technical issues?
So, you're trying to play Technobabylon, and it's not quite working for you? Here are a few fixes for some of the most common issues..

# Mouse moves extremely slowly
- Is "enhanced pointer precision" enabled for your mouse? Try turning that off and see if it works

# Stuttering/jerking, especially on room changes
- Change the graphics settings in setup from DirectDraw to Direct3d/OpenGL
- This may also happen if you have a lot of applications running in the background
- Change the screen resolution, and see if that helps
- Let your computer have a break, and tell it how much you appreciate the hard work it does for you

# I've got black borders around the sides of the screen!
- Go into winsetup, click "advanced", and uncheck "enable side borders"/"enable top & bottom borders"

# My screen's too small/windowed!
- Go into winsetup
- To choose whether to run the game in a window, select/deselect "windowed"
- To change the screen size, choose the "Filter" drop-down list, and choose a filter (2x, 3x, etc)

# Where's Winsetup?
- [Steam Directory]/SteamApps/Common/Technobabylon/winsetup.exe

For me; switching from Direct3D (the default) to DirectDraw seemed to fix the audio stuttering when switching between rooms.

Did you make a typo; or is my process really the reverse?

You're right, that was a whoopsy on my part. Whoopsy! At least switching it over worked.

For the record; once I did that switch I Was unable to take in-game screenshots. :-(

Yes with DirectDraw the Steam overlay doesn't, so no screenshot function too.
I also think that achievements and game time tracking won't work anymore, at least I'm pretty sure that this was the case with The Cat Lady (AGS engine too).

Do I have to wait for the full release on 21 for the achievements to work?
Nedraed 17 May, 2015 @ 6:27am
Indeed, the achievements are not active in the demo version.

I didn't mean in the demo, I meant that this is a general problem of AGS games if you switch to DirectDraw.
And I think that Bred To Main also meant the full version, because he seems to be a tester or press (otherwise I wouldn't know how he can have the game already in his Steam library).

Any versions that are currently on Steam do not yet have the achievements enabled - the only person in the world who's gotten any achievements yet is Dave Gilbert, and that was just for testing purposes!

Indeed, I'm press. I wanted to be sure if they really are disabled or it's a bug ( I met this situation testing another game, that had a few achievements available and i unlocked them accidentally ). Heh, I'll get the achievements at the 2nd playtrough :D. I met no technical issue other than the "Text skipping when the Steam overlay enabled" one so far.

For "text skipping on Steam overlay", we've found that pressing the TAB key seems to stop that happening.

Good luck with the achievements! I look forward to seeing how people do, since most of them are based around the multiple solutions for puzzles.

I wanted to show it a day ago but i somehow forgot. Here is a graphic bug i wanted to report. Nothing major, but I assume you would want to know :). You can see what it is in the left down corner. I hope I'm not wrong submitting this here.

Speaking of achievements, I've been having a pile of fun with those. I did find one circumstance where you could get more than one of them in a given playthrough for the same puzzle-- it was the ones with the Trance Den entry.

Regardless of which approach you use first, you can still solve that puzzle two ways minimum, and get both achieves. If you shut down the lights after restoring the water, then you can get all three.

The screen-stuttering thing I mentioned in the thread I posted earlier happened with DirectDraw on, and right at points where the autosave kicked in. I went back and checked a few places where it happened-- nearly always with the change in rooms. I remember a case in which it happened while I was sitting around not quite getting a puzzle, but I haven't been able to replicate it.

The game keeps minimizng for me when run in full screen mode. I can hear the sound in the background but the game itself keeps going back to the task bar. I've never had any problems with any AGS games (Blackwell, GR, etc.), this is the first one that behaves like this.

I'll pass this on to the Mothership and see if they've got an opinion on this - might be something to do with the latest AGS version we're using. What resolution/scaling are you using?

Hm! The only thing I can think of is that you have a background process that is interfering in some way. I know the same thing sometimes happens when I get a skype message or an email alert. It technically shouldn't happen, but different computers react to AGS in different ways. Could the same thing be happening to you?
