Game "uninstalled" itself.
I was going to play for a few hours today, only to find that the game had "uninstalled" itself.
The reason for the quotation marks is that the game files were still on my computer. People online have been saying that if you just click install, Steam will realize that it derped out and fix the status itself, however in my case I have to redownload the entire game all over again.

Meaning I won't get no sleep tonight with my machine making a hell of a noise and spewing out heat while downloading. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I tried validating the download files and steam just told me they were fine.
The files you don't have on your computer and need to redownload have been
validated and are fine.
Well, gee, thanks I guess! sigh...

Update: This video can be helpful to some:

I had the same problem after the latest patch. I have to do the last step in this video otherwise the game just tries to reinstall over and never lets you actually play. https://youtu.be/HJ6imcVS9f0?t=2m43s

This did literally nothing for the issue as that will not even launch. Just steam that tries to reinstall the game. Am I missing something here, because I was playing fine last night only to awake and find that the game does not work as it is not installed according to steam. But all files are still there... Rather annoying and baffling as well
Why would your PC spew heat and make noise just from downloading??I hope it's due to being in a warm place and not lack of keeping your pc dust free, even if it's a laptop you can use compressed air.Though even then it should not be putting out much heat or noise just for idle downloading.

No, I use compressed air to remove dust every 5 months so that shouldn't be a problem. As to why my computer decides to sing the song of its people to me when I am trying to sleep, while it's downloading, I have no idea XD

I have a watercooled stationary computer. My guess is that the more effective it is at cooling the Pc, the more heat it throws out of the comp. The noise I am complaining about with my Pc is that when I posted this a while back, my watercooling pump made a squeeky noise every single second XD It is gone now, after 5 years of having it, for some reason.
