An accident, I assure you. Saw the opening comments about the gear and missed the 'Not the Gear' part.
One huge difference is that Assassins Guild gives you the Blade of Woe. Astoundingly useful. Thieves Guild can facilitate making scads of gold from looting the palaces. Both guilds are involved in various story lines as well, based on their focus of killing or thieving.
Their stories and lore are embedded in their quest lines and their association with other NPCs in the game.
Other than that, don't know how to answer any deeper.

True. I just thought they meant Thieves Guild. No point of comparing an in-game organization with an out-of-game organization, I think. Have to take the content on its own or one can drive oneself crazy. :)
