Can't select New Stories

So I read about the small update yesterday. But when I started the game, nothing updated and the "New Stories" option was greyed out.

After looking up in the steam and the failbettergames forums, without finding anything related to my problem, I did the following: I opened the config.json (in the user/username/AppData/LocalLow/Failbetter Games/Sunless Sea folder). I noticed that "Force Download" was on false so I put in of true.

When I restarted the game, the "New Stories Available!" option was there and I could click on it, log in with my FL account (it didn't ask me for any code though), and update the game. I got the little window with the changelog, including yesterday's. I played a little and noticed the new icons for the Potent Flares, Flee and Observe actions. So I guess the update went well.

Only problem, now every time I launch the game, the "New Stories Available!" option is still there unless I change the Force Download back to false in the config.json. And I'd rather not because then, how will I know if there's new content available?

Anyone else encountered this issue? Did I skip something? Should I remove the game from my computer and make a fresh install?

Personally I'd just do a fresh install or try verify the game files.

Verifying the game files didn't work and neither did the fresh install (I even deleted the AppData/LocalLow/Failbetter Games folder, just in case).

I'm back at the same point : New Stories greyed out and didn't get yesterday's update (maybe more?).

Oh well, I'll stick to the Force Download trick until they fix the issue. I just hope I'm not missing on anything.

me neither man, it keeps asking for my emailadress, while i already bought the game, so id rather not get spam with the "new story"

porn ok, but spam.... no ..... so toobad, no new stories for me i guess...... why you need my email, while i already bought the game on a DRM platform ? ??

I think they are trying to tie portions of the game to Eco Bazaar - progression in one would feed the other and all that. I'm just hoping that no content will be locked to those who chose not to play EchoB (or those who once did, and their account has disappeared)

King in Yellow, I had the same problem. My firewall added sunlesssea.exe to the list of files with limited access. After sorting that out the button started working. Maybe it's work for you too.
