Gather port reports from all the ports, take tomb colonists to Venderbight (also, wine if you want to), stock up on cheap fuel at Mt. Palmerstone, get 1-2 Schintillack from Port Cecil.
Lengthy route, but works for me.
I tend to make the run to Godfall or Venderblight only when I am headed in that direction for the admiral or Blind bruiser.
I find taking circle routes help in making a little more money. So I suggest taking different routes back to London. It usually does not consume that much extra fuel.
Do not pass any port without stopping to get a port report.
To save money on terror reduction take longer routes to your destination that keep you close to land and buoys. The extra fuel use makes up for the reduced terror gain. As you probally have already discovered reducing terror is a bit expensive.
Learn to live with terror. Most times I am comfortable leaving port with 30-50 terror. You will suffer nightmares so make sure you keep at least 1 restful night sleep in inventory. You get that from resting in your lodgings.
Only rest in your lodgings when suffering from nightmares and you do not have a restful night sleep.
I recommend not to upgrade your engine beyond the 500 echo model. The more powerful engines fuel burn cut too much into your profits. I have mixed feelings about the Serpentine engine, but if you are focused on trying to accumlate echoes I recommend not using it.
Find the places that reduce terror without costing echoes. There are two I know of, one will be only good early game, the other takes an item you can easily obtain for a terror reduction equaling what you get with carousing Wolfstack Docks. There are of course events in ports that reduce terror usually only a small amount.
No really good trade routes yet, you have already discovered Godfall and should have discovered that you can make echoes taking colonist to venderblight. You can also make a very small amount extra by stocking up on wine in London when you make a run to Venderblight.
I know I did not answer the question you were asking but the above is some ways I learned to save some echoes.
Seconded. This is the fastest quickest route: FL-->Quaker's Isle(Get Port/Egg/whateveryoucanget)-->Godfall (offload 30 wine casks+Port Report)-->Abbey of the Sisterhood-->FL with maybe a detour to the three sisters on that island just outside FL.
Fun Fact: This counter "Time, the Healer" will get updated each time you dock in FL assuming enough time elapses. As soon as it passes 200 and the Head Pirate Monk will rudely tell you to take your booze away (although he will take it off your hands for the price you paid for it...wasting fuel and supplies...for nothing at all. Well, nothing but a rude message from the Pirate Monk Bossman involving what he thinks about you profiting from the delinquincy of a gaggle of minors...uh...upstanding pirate monks.
Yes, that's right its all your fault his pirate monkies can't shoot straight anymore; poor little dears. Anyway, you should make sure you take multiples of five shroom wine casks with you or you will be sorry!
"Cask of Mushroom Wine" to Godfall. 5x pieces cost 105 Echoes in London, and sell for 150 Echoes in Godfall." BUT SUDDENLY... you will start getting only 100 Echoes, instead of 150 thus eliminating the whole chance of making profit.
I did about 20 runs (30 wine each), and then the game decided to ruin my whole business.
You can always fight lifebergs up north near Whither and Codex or Corsairs somewhere near Gaiden's Mourn or Corsair Forest if you want to indulge your ship in more destructive action for your credit farming.
Much of the remainder of the game fixates on exploring the random rogue-like events at various ports of call and your officer stories.
@Nezaroth: As I've said elsewhere, the Godfall run dries up when the head pirate tells you to go away. When does that happen? When "Time, the Healer" in your journal passes 200 to signify your 200th day at sea.
So...you have to work quickly and pedantically if you want to extract the maximimum amount of echoes in the least possible time before YOUR time runs out with the Godfall Wine Run. Hit it fast and hard after starting a new game and then keep hitting that dead horse until it dies permenantly!
There's no real easy way to earn Echos beside grinding.
What am I missing?
