Challenge #36: Paper Pressure

For this week we experiment with a mix and match challenge, hope you'll all have fun!

The Story

Hildegard walked down one of the small but majestic corridors of the Society when she saw Yvonne's puzzled face. "Hey Yvonne! Are you thinking of one of my magic tricks?". She faced Hildegard "Sorry Hildegard, your acts don't impress me much. It's just that today already TWO journalists passed me, without even as much as looking at me. Look, here comes another." A flashy reporter stepped quickly through the hall, obviously on her way to be first to the latest. In the process she completely ignored both Yvonne and Hildegard. "How can they afford to miss out on my most recent achievements?!"

While the slightly offended Hildegard tried to talk Yvonne of off her high horse, Pinkerton's office opened, where all the journalists had one by one entered and left. The chairman came out and told the two curious explorers what was happening. "The London Times, The Thames Times, and the Explorer's Finest all decided they want a custom exploration story to compete in some award. We can't let any of them down, so I'm afraid this poses a particular kind of pressure on our expeditions." The chairman looked at Hildegard. "Also I'm afraid all featured explorers need to be at least 18 years of age...". Pinkerton hadn't fully anticipated Hildegard's emotions and when the tears began to flow, he quickly looked at Yvonne. Finding no help there he panicked slightly. "Ah Kwame, so good to see you, why don't you come over here for a second!"

The Rules

- Pick a combination of the following constraints. The number of constraints and score determine your medal.
1. Your captain is Molly, Harry or Victor.
2. Complete at least 3 full Research trees. (Don't forget an extra screenshot for this one)
3. Visit both the Hungarian Fort and the Highlands (in any order).
4. All crewmembers are of the same class.
- Each crew-member has to be at least 18 years old :'(

- Play on Adventure Mode.
- Play on any Difficulty.
- Your game has to be played on Patch #18 or later

The Goals

BRONZE: 2,000 Renown, at least 1 constraints (1 Medal Points*)
SILVER: 5,000 Renown, at least 2 constraints (2 MP*)
GOLD: 6,000 Renown, at least 3 constraints (3 MP*)
PLATINUM**: 9,000 Renown, at least 3 constraints
* Number of medal points awarded when playing on Classic Difficulty. Easy and Normal give less, according to these rules.
** The platinum medal is extraordinary and can only be achieved on Classic or Impossible difficulty without losing. It doesn't increase Medal Points, but we will track how many you have.

STORY MEDAL: Is there a crew that can make it into all the newspapers features? Or is the pressure of the media too large? How will Hildegard deal with her disappointment?

We're keeping track of all the medals you gained in the Hall of Fame.

How to participate

You can participate with a highscore, a story or both.

Stories

1. Write a story. Use the Challenge theme as an inspiration by looking at the constraints. Find other stories in the Fan Story directory or by looking at previous challenges.
   
2. Post your story in a new topic in these forums.
   
3. Link to it here with a comment.
   
4. Include the first paragraph/few lines of your story in the post to show readers what your story is about.

Highscores

1. Play the game according to the challenge rules.
   
2. Post a screenshot of your Win screen (that is the screen right after the win ceremony) in this topic.*
   
3. If you pick the research tree constraint, don't forget to add a screenshot of your completed trees.
   
4. Submit by Wednesday, August 10th, 12:00 noon CEST / 05:00 CT. (Check your timezone here[www.worldtimebuddy.com])

*If you forget to screenshot the Win screen, you can also enter with a screenshot of your Leaderboards: Go to Main Menu > Leaderboards > Local > click the entry that matches your submission game > screenshot those details.

Not quite sure what to do with this one yet, though. I'm guessing I'll take Kwame for a spin since he's rumored to be completely busted, and I still have to find out before the devs 'correct' it. :)

I would like to update my own score if that's possible(Read you can do that) WOO this was a much better run. Again I couldn't do the research papers(maybe I should load up on Students rather than specialists) But this is probably my highest score yet.

Constraints:
- visited Fort and Highlands
- Victor as captain
- completed three science trees

Had another run before that with similar team (Agatha instead of Emilia) and got short of three science trees by two papers with 11409 renown as a result.

First time I've progressed and completed the Lost Isle, which was a lot of fun. I quite liked this team, especially the combination of Charles and Harry (with the right skill choice) cone attacks.

I pretty much went all out maximising Science, to the exclusion of everything else. Which proved surprisingly difficult, as with so little Gold for gear it made later Encounters particularly difficult (and long) as I didn't really have the AP or Speech to do much damage each turn.

I also had a lot of trouble gaining XP, and I'm not really sure why. Even by the end, Pierre and Emily were at Level 4 and Anna had only made it to level 3.

Had hoped to discover the mystery of the Lost Island with this crew, but was down to 1 Resolve so got out while I still could. Someday I will complete it (and Shangrila. )

XP is always either not doing enough fights or not trying enough rolls - even if you fail em, you get the exp, so almost always worth taking the roll unless the failure is a really bad option.

And the level 5's are always fun, but I do advise learning them on a non-challenge trip (unless that IS the challenge that week) so you can take it easy and learn them. They're in a different league to the others, and have a lot of options :P

Totally fine to do so :) I would suggest editing the previous post's pictures and entering then after your final score though with a note for the record. It's bad enough siphoning through everyone's scores without having to sort out who's entered in twice (or more!), never mind the rest of the work we put the devs through, heh

Thanks. I wasn't aware of skipping rolls (though I have been playing a bit more cautiously now I'm playing Adventure mode) but I did notice I seemed to get less encounters in this run (but they took longer.) Which wasn't a conscious decision on my part, just seemed to happen.

Though I guess that's probably partly due to the randomness factor of the expeditions being generated, like when I had all the Egypt Oasis right near the start point.

First time finishing a run with Charles. Didn't quite go as planned, was left with 1 resolve in the final fight. Worked out ok though, should've probably done psychology instead of history.
