Tagline : No bedtime story today. Work your way through the adventure without consulting campfire stories

Story:
‘’Gather round, gather round. Make sure you are comfortable as I will tell you the most riveting story you have ever heard.’’ Jan-Piet says through-out the room. Most of the other explorers in the lounge look towards Jan-Piet.
‘’You can’t just start telling a story in the middle of their break.’’ Anna says. Harry nods.
‘’Yea, some people don’t want to listen to your stories…’’ Harry says. Anna looks at Harry confused.
‘’Did… did we just agree on something.’’
‘’…at the very least you should let me help you in telling that story!’’ Harry says with a large smile. Anna sighs. ‘’I should have know.’’
‘’You really should have. This happens all the time.’’ Agatha says. Anna tries to leave but the explorers sitting next her won’t let her trough. It seems she has no choice but to listen.
‘’Today Jan-Piet and Harry present, the story of the adventures of the blue monkey’’

‘’On an Island far away in the Caribbean Ocean there once lived a blue monkey. The colour of his fur stood out from the rest. At first he was not accepted by all the other monkeys.’’
‘’But he proved to be an excellent leader, so the other monkeys looked to him for guidance. Under the command of the blue monkey they built a magnificent society on the Island. There they thrived and all seemed to be going well.’’
‘’However it seemed that his leadership would be put to the test. On the shore of the Island a group of cultists appeared, wanting to take what the monkeys had build up!’’

‘’Wait don’t you mean voodoo pirates?’’ Anna interrupts.
‘’No it were definitely cultist. They had sailed straight from Hungary to the Island.’’ Harry explains.
‘’But that can’t happen because Hungary is…..’’
‘’Hey who’s telling the story? Anyway….’’

‘’The monkeys started to panic. They had never seen these weird cloaked individuals before. But the blue monkey spoke to his brethren, assuring that if they just worked together they would surely drive them away.’’
‘’All the monkeys lined up before the village and prepared their defences. The cultist tried to drive the monkeys out by insults alone, but the blue monkey knew his advantage chart and simply reasoned with the cultist for them to leave.’’
‘’Seeing this the other monkeys followed suit and started complementing the cultists on their nice robes and totally rad looking sceptres. After a while the cultists apologised and returned to their boat.’’
‘’Now that the danger was averted the blue monkey wanted to travel the world to satiate his adventuring spirit. So he build a soapbox and rowed all the way to the Anagogic Archipelago.’’

‘’So he just sailed an entire ocean with next to no preparation?’’ Anna interrupts again. Jan-Piet and Harry nod. Anna turns to Agatha.
‘’Agatha how can you put up with this?’’ Anna asks.
‘’When you are at my age you learn how zone out from conversations you don’t want to be a part of.’’
‘’That does seem pretty handy’’
‘’Why yes Molly I do agree that they should teach children more about the Vikings.’’ Agatha says. Anna sighs
‘’Go on, continue.’’

‘’When he arrived at one of the Island he found a bunch of birds that he thought he could train. After several days he had succeeded, however there was one bird that he was unable to tame.’’
‘’So in order to boost their friendship the blue monkey used magic to make the soapbox fly and together they flew to Greenland to get some ice-cream.’’

Anna jumps up out of rage.
‘’No! That’s it! This is were I draw the line! I have had enough of this stupid story! I am leaving now.’’ She says as she pushes the other explorers out of her way.
‘’And I don’t want to hear any of these nonsense stories for the next few weeks!’’

Rules:
  • Anyone can be the Captain or in the crew
  • Dont use the Campfire Stories, they are heavily penalised
  • You must play on Adventure mode.
Scoring:
Your Score is your Renown + Bonus Points and Penalties

You recieve +100 Bonus Points for each expedition you went without using the Campfire

You recieve a -100 Penalty for every Generic Campfire Story you used (these are the +8 campaign tokens, +2 resolve, etc.)

You recieve a -2000 Penalty for every Character Contributed Cards you used (for example Harry's cards are: Lucky Gold, Master Thief, Orphaned Child)

To show which Campfire Cards you used you need to click "one more expedition..." at the end screen and then screenshot your cards on the overworld
  • BRONZE: 3000 Points (1MP*)
  • SILVER: 7000 Points (2MP*)
  • GOLD: 12000 Points and no Character Contributed Cards used(3MP*)
  • PLATINUM: 17000 Points and no Character Contributed Cards used(3MP+**)
* Number of medal points awarded when playing on Classic Difficulty. Easy and Normal give less, according to these rules.
Gold and Platinum medals may only be achieved without losing, though Silver and Bronze are still possible to get with just the Record sheet for that trip.
** The platinum medal is extraordinary and can only be achieved on Classic or Impossible difficulty without losing. It doesn't increase Medal Points further than a Gold medal, but we will track how many you have.

If you intent to do a Campfire-less Run, it might be a good idea to turn off the reminders in the options

18781 renown + 500 for no cards at any stage (Did I get this screenshot right?) = 19281 points

No storytelling for this challenge? Booooo, clearly what this calls for is the most story-telling team possible, consisting of the two people who learn Storytelling naturally and one person who would learn it via his card were he not cruelly deprived of it by the silly rules :P Since Harry is categorically the best captain, purely on the strength of his excellent perk, this was fine.

Seriously, this was a fun challenge to plan for and theme my team around, and I really enjoyed it xD Thanks, as always.

Well decided I didn't want to do another dolores or phailin run, and went with a less popular captain instead. Not platinum, but a respectable score i think

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2122893600

200 points seemed worth giving up (loss of bonus and small penalty) for a better start so used cards on the first two expeditions, but stuck to basic cards +300 -200 for a net 100 bonus

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2122893566

Turned out to be worth it. Probably could have squeezed out another thousand had i pressed my luck on starvation a little more but wouldn't have gotten platinum either way. Carribean went very poorly (failed roll for water, didn't find monkey till very end, forgot a naturlist perk on tree)... almost tempted to try again for platinum with the same crew

+100

14101 for a solid gold though with Yu

Obviously, I had to write a story for the no-storytelling challenge :) So , here's a little vignette in which, having been banned from telling stories at the campfire, Harry , Phailin and Jan-Piet collude to test just how deep Anna's commitment to her new rule goes ...

You can find it here The Seven Trials of the Unfathomable Bureaucracy . As ever, please enjoy..
Welcome back explorers, I asume you all stayed cool and collected without the warmth of the campfire. Lets see how you all did.

Someone broke the rules and actually wrote a story, no wait this is just an expedition report. I'll leave it Here in case "reports" and "bureaucracy" interest you

bethany.hopkins' Harry is still on top even without his luck and stories, goes to show how powerful he and his players are. Nice job DHBTVS for keeping your Yu so close to the rest of the pack, I guess Yu doesn't need the campfire that much.
