Challenge #132: Unorthodox Finale

Story:

Pinkerton was sitting at his desk, thinking about exploration. They had plenty of research from the two islands, plenty of secrets from Transylvania and Shangri-La, plenty of gold from Anagogic and Mali… but, come to think of it, not so much from Hungary or Caribbean. Instead of finding any actual resources there, they just worked on their gain for the next expedition.

How was it more important to get fame in Transylvania, or research on Lost Island, than the same on Hungary or the Caribbean? Everyone already had a ton of the former, from every expedition. The real question is how there were still more secrets in Transylvania to find.

Pinkerton knew, of course, that he couldn’t just tell explorers “get lots of resources from your stepping-stone expeditions;” they only seemed to take his special requests seriously when he gave them an interesting challenge. An unorthodox route would be less effective, perhaps, but nonetheless, the explorers would take it as a challenge - and that was more effective than anything Pinkerton could ever say.

Rules:

• You must go to either Hungary or the Caribbean as your 5th expedition.
  
• And you cant go to Hungary or the Caribbean before your 5th expedition.
  
• If you finish in Hungary, you may not go to Highlands and Transylvania
  
• If you finish in the Caribbean, you may not go to Egypt and Emerged
  
• You may not go to the Anagogic Archipelago.
  
• Kwame is not allowed as captain. [due to an exploit he can perform]
  
• You must play on Adventure mode.

Scoring:

Your score is your renown

• BRONZE: 2500 Renown (1MP*)
  
• SILVER: 6000 Renown (2MP*)
  
• GOLD: 10000 Renown (3MP*)
  
• PLATINUM: 15000 Renown (3MP+**)

* Number of medal points awarded when playing on Classic Difficulty. Easy and Normal give less, according to these rules.
Gold and Platinum medals may only be achieved without losing, though Silver and Bronze are still possible to get with just the Record sheet for that trip.
** The platinum medal is extraordinary and can only be achieved on Classic or Impossible difficulty without losing. It doesn't increase Medal Points further than a Gold medal, but we will track how many you have.

How to participate

You can participate with a highscore, a story or both.

Stories

Write a story. Use the Challenge theme as an inspiration by looking at the constraints. Find other stories in the Fan Story directory or by looking at previous challenges.
Post your story in a new topic in these forums.
Also link to it to this thread with a comment: Include the first paragraph/few lines of your story in the post here to show readers what your story is about.

Highscores

Play the game according to the challenge rules and in Adventure mode.
Post in this topic a screenshot of your Win Screen*, right after the ceremony or your Leaderboard record.* Also include a text version of your score with the submission to allow for error checking.

I tried the last 3 challenge but always failed to finish it . But this one , is my best run ever . My previous record was 3.8k Renown (without doing challenge) .

Constraints on expedition order? This calls for the input of everyone's favourite Frenchman other than Rivaleux! Let's see how he did.

18639 renown here, following some , err, unorthodox shenanigans. This was a really clever, creatively designed challenge and it got me thinkng really hard about the best approach. I think combining three explorers with powerful, high-impact campfire cards worked well in the end :)

This challenge did also get me thinking about the effects of Victor's card, and Victor as a character. He's precise and cautious and disciplined and so on, but he's also willing to ignore Pinkerton's very clear instructions on what expeditions to go to when if he feels it's appropriate. What makes that one rule an acceptable one to break? And so I wrote a story about why I thought Victor might find this week's challenge frustrating, how he might express his annoyance and how Harry might just see an opportunity amongst all that bad feeling.

So I just picked this game up (I played a bit back in 2016) and after a few runs as a newb, I decided to try this challenge. Not sure why I tried - I haven't ever beaten Adventure Mode/Classic before!

Anyway, much to my surprise, Victor helped me be victorious! Not only is this my first Adventure/Classic win, but it looks like I beat the challenge (Sure..only 1MP, but I have to start somewhere!).

I definitely need to pick up the expansion packs. Looks like I'm missing out on (cards?).

Originally I was planning to unlock gargoyle treasures after getting all the other achievements. I realised I could modify the idea I had in mind for this challenge and I kinda needed to have one of the gargoyle treasures for this so I decided to just unlock them.
