Dev branch was updated yesterday. There's also still a Kepler "DLC" we are waiting to hear about.

Yeah i see. I think merrymaker is royalty, kepler is not published yet its kinda codename. When do we get the new patch your guess?

I'm gonna assume February because Royalty was released in February.

Sounds logical
Kepler.....hmmm. Is it possible Tynan will give us a whole star system to traverse? Set yourself up as a Stellarch?

Highly doubtful, as such a DLC would either use the same concept (the Broken Empire) as a previous DLC or rely upon users purchasing the prior DLC to use the new DLC. With the extensive amount of work they've put into making sure none of the base game mechanics rely upon owning the DLC, that kind of move seems uncharacteristic of Ludeon Studios.

I don't think you should try to look for any deeper meaning in project names like Kepler, apart from it being space-themed just like the game. After all, the Dreamcast went under project names such as Katana, Guppy, and Dural - none of which makes me think of anything related to Dreamcast.

It really would not surprise me at all if "Kepler" was essentially SoS2 official. The original concept of the game after all was a space station simulator, he couldn't get things like vacuum and oxygen to work well at the time so moved it to a planet. Multiple modders have since cracked those issues, so the idea of Tynan going back and adding his original concept for the game into RimWorld as a DLC makes a lot of sense to me. It could expand on the previous DLC and add interactions with the empire in space, but it could also be set up with other interactions for people without Royalty.

I also think the introduction of a real "alien" species is possible. I don't remember if Royalty explains the reason of the empire's exodus, but being wiped out by alien invaders and then having them chased out to the rim could be a thing.

But ya there's a good chance the name is just random and it could be anything, or even nothing at all, there might be some other reason to reserve those DLC slots other than releasing a new DLC.

I'd honestly prefer if Rimworld stayed on the Rim. I want more expanded social mechanics btwn pawns and other settlements. Royalty was a right move in that direction with the Empire demanding you to conform to their norms. If Tynan wants to make his original spaceship game he can make another game and I'd go play that.

>They lived for thousands of years in a stable multi-planet empire with a strict caste system, an intricate code of warrior ethics, and enforced cultural stasis. Invaded by powerful outsiders, they fled. (faction description)
>What arrives at the rimworld is a fragment of a destroyed Empire which was mostly annihilated by some unknown enemy. (Tynan)

it's not said what kind of outsiders, but under current lore "mankind never discovered any truly alien lifeforms":

Ordo Historia records list thousands of reported contacts with alien life. However, in every case that has been thoroughly investigated, Ordo inquierers have discovered that the alien was, in fact, simply another branch of humanity.

Beyond the technological diversity of our species, there is also a broad biological diversity. Some populations have evolved under the selection pressures of pre-industrial life or on a world of great heat or cold, or high or low gravity, or even worlds bathed in the toxic residue of hyper-destructive wars. Though almost all such xenohumans (as they are called) are recognizably descended from the original Earth stock, their morphology is highly variable. Some are giants; other are tiny or squat. Some are dark; others pale as snow. Some are hairy like animals; others perfectly smooth. Diets, dispositions, and chemical and radiological tolerances vary significantly. More alien are those xenohumans that carry genetic traits that were engineered instead of evolved.

So perhaps the new DLC will be about genetically modified humans, such as Ousters society from Hyperion Cantos, who will invade the solar system. And it will bring genomes that can be installed on pawns. Which adds wings, elongated or new limbs, adaptations for life in space, ability to feed off sunlight, etc. I also heard there are plans to rewrite pawn rendering or pawn layers, maybe this is due to the new variety of human morphology?

There's already Xenohumans in mods even if most of them are basically Cute Animal People. Orrosans is an old mod that was a thing even in beta. And they're all lore friendly.

Having something equivalent to Alien Frameworks but vanilla would be very beneficial.
