I've always found them pointless myself, but some people seem to think they're special so whatever.
It's no big deal though, there's plenty of other games out there. Bye.
If you had done your homework, you would have understood why. The dev has previously explained his reasons for not including them and these are sensible.

He doesn't want people to feel like they need to play the game a certain way or do specific things to hit the achievements. The game is about creating your own stories, not about trying to tick generic goals off a checklist.

For games with a linear story that want you to touch point A then point B then point C they work well enough. For live service games that want to hook you to new content with extrinsic rewards and are willing to constantly pour in new quests, achievements, and steps for you to take these systems are great. For a game that largely wants you to take control of the narrative, story, and direction that your game shape up to be, achievements have proven to be poison.
There’s an opportunity cost to every aspect of development. Making achievements means not doing something else. Maximizing sales for achievement types, as you suggest, means not making dlc or developing new content or fixing bugs or improving performance. I don’t know anything about Tynan or what he “cares for,” but game development is about making hard choices.
There are myriad examples of development teams who tried to please everyone and ended up with mediocre games.
Conversely every success is the result of a focused vision that satisfies a core player base.
Considering how far Ludeon has come it’s hard to argue they don’t understand their core design and player base.
As you said, there are lots of games out there. But the problem might be your attitude, not the games.
There's no right or wrong it's simply a case of enjoying the extra goals Steam Achievements add to a game & it's not an attitude thing, that's a weird thing to say.
Others:
They don't have to be storyline achievements, I actually think games with just storyline achievements are done by dev's being lazy. That said if I enjoy a game enough I'll happily go through the campaign again to get alternative achievements that weren't available on the previous playthrough.
