This game will never go on sale
The question "when will this game go on sale?" gets asked on a regular, almost daily basis. And the answer is always the same: Never; but it may go up in price.

The game is made by one guy (Tynan Sylvester) and is a product of nearly five years worth of his blood, sweat and tears. $30 is already a generous offer for what you are getting. This game has more content and is more polished than many "full release" games. And any new features Tynan concocts for the game gets updated and patched to the game for everyone, free of charge. None of the game gets hidden behind any "pay-to-play" DLC features that many other video game developers seem to be so fond of these days.

The "DLC" options are not actually DLC. What you are paying extra for is to add your own custom character into the vanilla game. You can download a mod for free to do exactly this (all mods are free), but if you're unabashedly conceited and want other random strangers to have your own custom character show up in their games then this DLC may interest you. Otherwise it is totally unnecessary in most cases. The only other reason you buy this feature is if you have some extra cash lying around and you want Tynan to have some of it.

The price tag of $30 is steep for some of you. It won't be going down and the sooner you do buy it, the more enjoyment you will potentially get out of it. $30 is the one time fee that you pay, you pay nothing more beyond that. The people who bought it for less bought the game nearly 3+ years ago. You probably won't ever see that price again, so if your strategy is to wait it out until it does go down you will be disappointed because it is extremely likely it will go up a few times before it ever goes down.

But if you still feel like $30 is too steep then find some games you do already own and check how much play time you got out of it before being bored. I bet you paid more than $30 and played less than 250 hours on most of the games you you are comparing this too. Now go and check the profile history of the people on this discussion board and see how many hours they invested in the game. You will see nearly everyone with 100+ hours spent playing with multiple people exceeding 1000 hours played. Now divide the hours played by 30 and that's how much we paid an hour to play this game. I bet it's a lower price than your time spent on all the games you spent that much time in.

I know that more complaint threads about Rimworld not going on sale are bound to happen and when they do I want those of you who do enjoy this game and agree with my points to give this thread a bump. Save your breath on the people who want to complain about the game and let this thread be the universal answer to why the game never goes on sale.

The only few things I'd like to add to this are:

I'm not sure the game was ever cheaper than $30, even as a Kickstarter reward, I think it's always been $30.

The thing that angers most of us here isn't wanting a sale (who doesn't want to save money?), but the way people come in here feeling owed a sale and getting nasty at the lack of one.

If we actually had a proper goddamn moderator here this wouldn't be such a problem.

Well said sir and yes, this should become the standard response link.

I bought it on the advice from a friend, thought I'd refund it almost straight away, 500hrs later and I'm a very happy old man. Hermit out.:wololo::HappyMask::rf:

Wanting something to go on sale and complaining is fine.
What's not fine is the ones that whine and insult the developer for it.

Using the OP's calculation, I am currently enjoying playing this game for a cost of just 3 cents per hour ;)
Who needs a discount when a game is already this good value for money?

People who don't really love colony management, don't want to potentally waste money on something they wont know they'll like, people who likes bargains. Etc.
When will the price increase

The mods add so much more content, worth about $40 in my opinion!

If at all, probably on full release.

Since evreyone keeps saying it is already on sale , the prince will increase.

"Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“The price may rise after Early Access. We're not sure.

The price won't go down for a while.”" The front page
