No it's not a waste of time. It's a very good game. Don't let your first attempt at the campaign put you off. It's meant to be attempted multiple times, it doesn't get stale fast and it gets easier as you level up.

I would suggest trying co-op as well even if you prefer single player games. I've been playing co-op mostly with my brother and a couple of friends, but even with a team of bots it's surprisingly doable—akin to a single player experience.

Absolutely. The main mode of this game is the singleplayer Roguelite campaign. There is a co-op mode where you can play heists and missions in a 4 player team, but the main mode of this game is the campaign.

Withing the campaign, your main goal is to expand your territories, gain more power, eliminate rival factions and become the Crime Boss, of Rockay City.

To do this, you will have to send soldiers, gangsters, to fight enemy factions on the streets. Turf wars with dozens of gangsters on each side having a shootout.

But fighting battles costs money, if soldiers die you need to hire new ones, that costs money. That's why every in-game Day, you can also take on heists. Stores, warehouses, jewelry stores, banks, or even steal from enemy gangs. That's where you send your professionals to do these jobs. Up to 4 characters on a team. You and 3 AI teammates, you can command them to do tasks, you can take control over them even.

Or there are the bigger story focused heists, like stealing huge jade statues out of a bank, air lifting them out with a helicopter, or infiltrating a yacht full of smuggled cocaine right under the police's noses. You can other side goals too, you have unique character story lines, like Ranger, a vietnam veteran and his very vivid flashbacks, or Cracker, a CIA agent and his adventures accross the globe.

There is a lot of stuff that this game has to offer, and the best part is, you will NOT experience everything withing just one playthrough. You have a limited time to take over the city, because the Sherrif is investigating you, and once he is finished he will come for you.

That's around 10-12 days in the game, can you conquer all turf, eliminate all rivals, and have the money to do so in that time? Probably not. Play out all the interesting stories in one playthrough? Nope.

So, yes, absolutely. Play Crime Boss: Rockay City. It is worth it. It is fun, it's pure entertaintment.
if only the borderless fullscreen isn't stuck to the 4k desktop resolution when i actually want to play at 1080p on a 970

Few threads back (campaign stories) somebody (edit. it was you) posted that these character stories were removed to the standalone plotlines? I have played the main campaign now few times and I havent seen any character stories.

Not once but multiple times. Your first campaign run could be over in 2 game days but after every run you can upgrade your stats (and unlock stuff) that are then available in your next run. I usually don’t like roguelite games but here it works and keeps campaign interesting and add replay value. You already own the game so why not try it.
Single play in this game is way more fun than multiplayer

The Roguelite mode, yes. The basegame Roguelite campaign has a lot of replayability and content itself, every playthrough is highly randomzied, to see all content you have several playthroughs ahead of you.

If you got the game from Humble Bundle, then you own the 2 campaign DLCs, Dragon's Gold Cup and Cagnali's Order, those are campaign expansions. Those are pretty good too. Worth a playthrough.
