Here's the method to play the game splitscreen with two controllers

First, you need to create two profiles, one for each player.

Then, you have to remap the inputs of each controller in the options menu.

And finally, when the game ask the second player to press the start button, hit the enter key of the keyboard. Seems they just forgot to let people map start of the second player on the controller, but Enter key work fine for the second player. Once you hit the enter key, you can choose the profile of the second player with the controller and play with both controllers without any problem.
