Beginner-Friendly General F.A.Qs
Hello! The culprit behind DarkEnd is here! To ease the pain from posting specific questions, I have made an FAQ and hopefully, you’ll find an answer here!

About DarkEnd
Need some info about DarkEnd before you buy? Read here!

Q:What is this game about?

DarkEnd is a traditional 2D turn-based RPG dungeon-crawler with rogue-like elements. "Pick your heroes, dive into dungeons, slaughter monsters (or get slaughtered), loot treasures and survive!"-kind of game.

Q:Is it a JRPG? Like "Final Fantasy"?

JRPG? Sort of.
Like "Final Fantasy"? Absolutely not!

The game-design of DarkEnd is similar to RPGs/dungeon-crawlers from the late 80s, not from the 90s. Veterans of crawler genre will immediately notice the similar designs, such as "hub-town", floor-by-floor dungeons, and brutal battles are comparable to 80's JRPGs and CRPGs, i.e; Megami Tensei and Wizardry series.

You will be solely disappointed if you are expecting 16-bit era "Final Fantasy" type of RPG from DarkEnd.

Q:I'm interested now but I'm new to dungeon-crawling. What is to be expected (as a new player)?

Classic dungeon-crawlers actually play the same as all traditional RPGs except for two main elements.

One : Difficulty

Battles tend to be unforgiving in dungeon-crawl genre. The game will throw everything at you. You are expected to be well prepared for that. Mobs that can wipe your entire party await as early as you stepped into the floor# one. Strategic planning, preparing and decision making is a must in this game. I know, it's an overused phrase, but really, you need "strategic planning, preparing and decision making"!

Two : Pressure

Exploring the dungeons itself will be a big pressure. Every unprepared step you take in the dungeon can easily ended up in "Gameover" screen. "Should I go one more floor or head back and restock?", "Man, that's the optional boss I'm looking for my quest over there! But I'm low on MP. Should I fight or not?", "Oh! An entrance to optional dungeon! But I don't know if I'm strong enough for it or not..." < These will be the questions you will be asking yourself while playing the game.

Q:I want to try this game but it sounds too difficult for me!

Don't worry. The game has multiple difficulties to choose and newly added "Milestone Leveling" is great for those who do not wish to grind for EXP. Set the game to the mode most suitable for you and you will be able to access the game.

Q:How long is the game?

Playing on "Valiant" difficulty, which is a recommended setting (read "HARD"), will take about 10-15 hours to complete the game. Trying to get a perfect file will take about 30+ hours depending on random nature of the dungeon itself. It will take less than 10 hours to finish the game on lower difficulties.

Q:Does it game need a lot of grinding? I don't want to grind

Turn on "Milestone Leveling" and the game will require absolutely NO grinding to complete the game. But taking on optional quests or trying to get a perfect play-file will need some grinding.

Q:I want to get a perfect file without grinding!

That's asking for Cheats ._.

DarkEnd's Gameplay

Q:Which heroes should I pick?

All four heroes have both advantages and weaknesses. Pick the one which suit your play-style.
Griselda, the necromagus, is a good all-around character. She can be a decent damage dealer both physically and magically. She can summon "familiars" to buff/heal the party. However, most of her magics are "Dark-Element" it will be harder to fight demonic beings and undead with her.

Xia, the primagus, is a great elemental AOE damage dealer. She is physically the weakest of all four heroes but she can dish out devastating elemental damage to all enemies. However, later in game, there will be enemies that will reflect certain elements. She can effectively wipe her own party if her spell is reflected.

Lucion, the Knight-Templar, is a "tank" with efficient healing capacity and above average damage output. His spell can be very effective against the undead but deal a lot lesser damage to the livings.

Svas the blood hunter, is the pure offense-oriented character. He can dish out strongest physical damage in game and can debuff enemies. However, enemies that have no physical weakness can be troublesome for him.

Q:How do I access Skill Tree?

Press "A" (Default Key) on the keyboard while you are in the "hub-town".

Q:Oh! So many skills! What should I learn?

The skill tree is flexible enough to turn your characters into several variants of their own base classes. For example, you can turn Xia into a "Battle-Mage" when she mastered the staff skills and equipped with Heavy Armor-type. Use "reset ruby" if you ever want to reset the skill tree.

Q:Can I master all the skills?

Yes, you can but you have to grind for it. The estimate end-game level is 35 which means you have 37 skill points to spend. That's not enough to master all the skills yet.

Q:I can't find *Insert item/boss/quest*! What should I do?

Due to random nature of the game, it might take several play-thought to find certain items, quests and optional-bosses, depending on the mercy of RNG god. I would suggest not to stress about getting a perfect file on first play-through. The game features New Game+ system. It will be easier to tackle optional contents with a stronger party.

Q:How to go into Full-Screen mode?
The game should automatically go into Full screen at launch. If not, press "Alt+Enter". Easy :D

Q:I pressed F1 to access configuration menu but my mouse cursor flew off into oblivion!

S-sorry! There is a minor bug with mouse-support script. You can disable the mouse-support in game and you can access the F1 menu without any problem! Re-enable the mouse support after configuring, if you wish.

Q:I finished the game with *insert character* but don't understand the plot. Did I miss something while playing?

Nope. You just need to play with another character to see different portion of the story-line. Finish the game with all four characters and you will be able to understand the story better. (if not, it's probably due to my poor English localization .__. This will be fixed in future update.)

Q:I'm stuck at *Insert Boss". It's unbeatable!!!

Most of the boss battles require strategic planning and preparation. Some bosses may have highly damaging attack that can wipe entire party in one-hit, but often, those attacks can be blocked-off completely just by equipping specific equipments. Throwing the strongest spells you have at the boss is not always the answer.

Q:Oh wait! I got something called a "grimoire". What is that?

Near end-game, you will get a NPC that can help you link the magic spells from the grimoire to your weapon. By doing so, you can access various secondary spells for your heroes.

That's all for now! (sorry for my English and a long post)!

If you have trouble saving, try running the game as Administrator and see if that work.
