FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH
Summons should have been...
Side Quest Boss fights discovered in the game world, not lame ass Chadley VR fights. What a missed opportunity to add more lore, content, and tie the summons to various parts of the world. I feel like that's what was missing from the OG, and considering how much more fleshed out they've been in each subsequent FF game.

And Chadley is such a waste of space.

the point i suppose was to have it make sense.

as opposed to just like, for example getting alexander in the classic 7 and its just: go touch this one piece of terrain on the map that looks like nothing->backtrack->go fight an enemy you're gonna fight again->you got it, yay?

at least now its built into it as something thats being created based upon a logical system, cause we know materia can be created.

they arent working on how to make materia, they already know how, its why theres even materia as it is in the game. the RnD is working on an ultimate materia

no materia in game all of it except what chadly makes is naturally occurring or made by the Cetra.

scarlet in a scene literally says "we are on the verge of making our own materia"

so no shinra is not making materia at least in this version of the story

Man made materia is common by the time of the events of FFVII. Shinra does manufacture it.

Which is condensed from mako. Lifestream. Their knowledge is contained in that. And doesn't have to be crafted by the Cetra.

They are trying to make ultimate materia. "Normal" has already proliferated by their company's production.

They offer great value for just 1-2bars. Simply summon and ignore them. Dont use any of their skills (except maybe their support skills). They will still do dmg, aggro'd the enemy, and ofc use their ultimate atk.

The main issue imo is you cant really use em on normal fights, cos trash mobs die pretty quickly. And you need to stagger the enemy first before the summon bar starts. So you're not really able to use em outside boss fight.1

As fire n forget, I agree. Otherwise so far they've been pretty underwhelming past the early game. Phoenix aside. Phoenix can save team wipes.

They've done that idea before in other games. It wouldn't have been original.

It's nice having them as Chadley fights, so you can redo them if you want, as post game content.

It was nice in the original because some were hidden in cool places. Hopefully part 3 has a little bit of that going on. Depends, really, are they still on UE4 or did they decide on UE5? Because UE5 is much much better for big open world games than UE4 is.
I like them more as things out in the real world. It feels more in line with the original game where you just kinda find the materia laying around. I agree that too much is tied to the VR content. Enemy Skill is another that kinda just was pushed into VR as opposed to finding out in the wild.
yeah i agree... for me will be a good thing to do some post dungeons by dlcs to add few extra dungeons (Maybe with extra summons?)
Summons were part of the coolest things in the original in terms of gameplay and world immersion. Now they are an afterthought in comparison

They did it later, in FF13. Or maybe earlier but I haven’t played anything between 7 and 13.

It was much better of course, the experience can’t compare with the VR crap.

It was done in VIII, you had to fight Ifrit inhis cave to get Ifrit summon etc. Also many other summons could be stolen from big story bosses instead.

am happy with how they handled it, chadley is annoying, doesn't mean he doesn't serve his purpose, and well, summons do fulfill the same purpose as the OG, they help and have unique properties, but were never really more powerful than what you could do with the characters themselves, except knights maybe ?

They were just 1 off spells in the OG lol, and they were time inefficient to use. ;p
