The biggest problem as I see it is from the start Grey Goo was being compared to Starcraft 2 by too many in the community. There were a lot of arguments along those lines on these boards, and those high expectations led to many abandoning the game early when it launched with balance issues. This is not Blizzard with Activision money. Petroglyph was operating on a much smaller budget, and couldn't sit this game in beta forever until it was fine tuned for launch like Blizzard did Starcraft 2. Grey Goo is a good RTS that you play just for the love of the genre, not because it's some E-sports giant like Starcraft 2. We may never see another like Starcraft 2, and RTS fans need to realize that.
Game is solid in any details, sadly just a few pears enjoy posting like lemons
Actually, it was during the tournament that some of us, the players, found out about the exploit and the fact that one player was using it to full extent and beyond.
Basically, Dallas / Unfair Technique was teleporting his refineries around and a glitch in the game caused this to result in new harvesters being generated on every teleport. This basically almost doubled his early economy, which was a HUGE advantage of course. I could not believe my eyes when my scout reached his base and saw he had already two refineries ready and third on the way. I had absolutely no chance of course when his rush came.
A year of preparation and a cheater basically drops me to the losers bracket of the tournamenet in the second round. I did then also legit lose to another person but I was still mentally in shock and confused about what had happened so I had lost my concentration.
Also, during the semi finals, I knocked on the door of the organizers and tried to alarm them about the situation as the cheater kept on cheating during his follow up games. They basically hushed me down. I didn't know what to do so I just watched in shame as the cheater took the trophy.
Was a nice trip to Texas other than for the actual "e-sports" side of it all. The organizers at least gave us a nice hotel room and paid for the flights. 1000 dollars in prize money as well for advancing to the second round (third if you count the bye round of wildcards) but it had a bitter sweet taste.
At least I ended up first in the ladder rankings, too bad that only counts for look-there-i'm-the-first-as-if-that-matters.
Four playable races, each with different mechanics and units. Very few games in this genre managed that successfully.
Grey Goo is a gem.
Literally every RTS dies to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Then all these other children...
Like this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... "too simple" it's no more simple than SC2. And people whine in C&C Remaster you have to do TOO much...
"bland looking"
ok princess... not sure what you want it to look like giant open maps with flat land and no substance like SC2, but I bet you drool over the simplicity of SC2.
"too simple"
How is this any more simple than ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SC2? HOW? It plays similar as ♥♥♥♥. there's triggers, upgrades etc etc... how much more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ complexity do you need?
I already know the answer... an infinite amount but it can't be more than SC2
After 10 seconds of lookoing up Enker-Zan I see just enough to know he's a SC2 fanboy who, in my experience, literally goes out of their way to ♥♥♥♥ on anything NOT SC2... so no surprise on that front... it's posts like this trashes that ruin every RTS because they whine and moan about EVERYTHING that's not SC2 to ruin them... SC2 players are like a cult and will ♥♥♥♥ on anything not SC and it disgusts me.
I'm literally a super loyal SC2 player who's enjoying grey goo and came here to check why it's more popular. Generalizing is not nice. Much love anyway ♣
