Game won't Launch
Anyone else having a problem with the game launching? I played just a couple days ago. Now there is a new launcher that comes up and when I click play nothing happens.

I have a very similar issue as well. Cannot play the game after the update. Recently launched it day before before the update.

I start the game expecting to see the game launcher, but the launcher is not visible on the screen.THere is a minimized block in the start panel which shows that it is running, but no matter how you click on it, it does not display on the screen.

If I hover my mouse over the desktop I do hear the sound that plays when you hover over buttons you can press in the launcher menu.

I tried launching from inside Steam program.

I tried launching from inside the folder directly.

Tried different compatibility modes for older versions of windows.

Tried to turn on and off full screen optimizations.

Tried running as Administrator.

Tried running with Nvidia Graphics as well as Integrated Graphics. My system has that option in the drop down menu.

Changed screen resolutions.

NOTHING works.

I am aware my video card is weak, but it ran Civ VI fine
If it could help, here is the system Info:

Windows 10 ,64bit
Intel core i7
Nvidia HD 620
12gb ram

I have a friend who is having the same problem. The game launcher is not working. I gave him the PASS as a gift and it downloaded fine. Now can not start the game.

Come on. Can someone comment and help us?
I can start the game, but I have to play a basic civ 6 game. There is no option to play rise and fall or gathering storm. WTF!?!

Have you tried avoiding the launcher? I haven't seen it since shortly after it was introduced.

To do this, in your library, right click on CIv 6, and then select the "set launch options".

In that box use this line. Note that you will need to use the correct file location for your install. And mine is also using the DX12 version. If you need the DX11 version, just use the civVI exe that does not have DX12 in its name. Here is what mine looks like:

"D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Binaries\Win64Steam\CivilizationVI_DX12.exe" %command%

(Make sure to use " around the file name/location if it has spaces, which likely it does)

I am having this issue as well. Played fine last night, now with the new launcher I click "Play"... and nothing happens.

Looking everywhere for a fix.

Same issue here. Thanks for the trick BlackSmokeDMax, gonna use that from now on, but that doesnt seem to solve it.

When I click play in the launcher it tries to start the program (I can see it say "Running" next to the game in my library). But after a few seconds it goes away and nothing happens.

I can launch the game but cloud saves are unavailable.

In the same boat. Avoiding the launcher did not solve it for me either.

Thank you. I have done the set launch options as you directed. I was able to circumvent the launcher. However the game still says that the display device failed. It said it twice to me. I never had this before the update either.

What the hell Firaxis?

Same problem here, game will not start after selecting the play button. I’m on a desktop with Win10. No problems ever until now. Has anyone seen a response from the game makers anywhere regarding this issue?

Same problem, game worked fine before the download. Now it won't run at all, great hype for the game and it doesn't run now.

Surely they must be fixing this soon. I bought the new DLC and it downloaded, and now Steam doesn't have permission to open it. Either that, or the .exe file isn't there (that's according to the messages that come up). I've tried validating and followed Steam's suggestions, but it just isn't working. Yet. I have faith they'll sort it out, but it's a bit rather frustrating - I'm dead keen for this new instalment!
