Help us translate Steam
- fault milestone two is still in development.
- fault milestone two will be sold in 2 parts
- Part 1 is planned to be released in the next Winter Comiket (C87), 28-30th December 2014
- Part 2 is planned to be released in the next Spring Comitia (Comitia 111), 1st February 2015
Sekai Project will probably take a month of crowdfunding on Kickstarter some time after they are released, and then begin working on the english translation. These process would probably be finished months after the japanese version release, so it may take some time.
Sekai Project can start working on the english translation without doing the crowdfunding, or even before the japanese version release; who knows, but I'd be delighted if they do :D
fault milestone one is a Kinetic Novel[en.wikipedia.org]. tl;dr it only has one ending.
There is only 1 choice given to the player in the game and it doesn't seem to affect the ending in any way. The sequels may or may not be Kinetic Novels; no one knows yet.
As I've stated before, I do not speak Japanese. But to clarify for Giovanni, do we know about how long the parts will be compared to milestone one? I ran the blog post you seem to be referring to through Google translate, and although it's incredibly unreliable, it appears to state that the decision was made to split milestone two because it ended up being about twice as long as milestone one.
Also, the "Closing Remarks" section at the bottom of this kickstarter post for milestone one has a few words to say about what we might have later.
"Silence the Pedant" was a prequel set 5 years before milestone one about how Ritona became Selphine's guardian. It received funding in the kickstarter as a stretch goal, but I don't know much about it, including it's length in comparison to milestone one. It was going to be completed anyway, but the extra funding accelerated the development time.
If you'd like, you might want to try replying to one of the developer's posts, as AiD has been active in the forums following the release.
I’m Munisix from AiD, I’m the author and director of fault. Let me clear up our (tentative) schedule once and for all so people won’t be confused anymore. Let’s start with Giovanni’s concerns.
1) First of all, milestone two is currently in production. Part 1 will be released in Japan at the end of the year and part 2 is scheduled to be released in May. However these are the release dates for the physical forms (DVD). The actual data of the game itself (both part 1 and part 2) will be completed by the end of March. I can’t give you specific dates but translation of milestone two part 1 will start pretty much immediately after the Japanese release (Dec 30th). This is so we can release milestone two on Steam (or wherever else we decide to sell it) as soon as possible. We’re also probably going to combine both part 1 and part 2 for Steam so it’ll just be released as “milestone two”. I can’t comment on the price but I don’t see why it would be too different than milestone one. Don’t quote me on that though.
2) milestone one and two will be a kinetic novel. We are planning to implement interactive elements from milestone three but the outcome of events will probably not change. Even if they do, they won’t impact the story in any significant way. This is a design choice and we are doing this on purpose to get a certain point across. Whether said point will come across or not is solely up to how well we execute the story mechanic but hey… we’re trying something here. Basically, fault (at least the milestone series) is straight up going to be a novel for the most part. If this irks you, you’re probably better off not purchasing it. We’re sorry to see you go but we’ll feel even worse if we took money from someone who we know won’t enjoy the product.
Silence the Pedant will be translated as well and we are planning to release it on Steam. We’re aiming to finish Silence the Pedant sometime during the summer (the Japanese version) but I can’t promise you anything about the English release date… yet. But, unless something terrible happens between us and Sekai Project, it will be definitely translated. We have vey good chemistry with them so I don’t see this becoming a problem.
As for people who are worried about fault’s completion, I’m going to be dead honest with you: I’m just as worried as you are lol. Jokes aside though, I have a whole bunch of ideas for future milestones but if it doesn’t perform well in terms of sales, we’re not going to able to trek on. It’s only been a day or two since release and people seem to really like fault but it’s a bit too early to draw any conclusions.
What I can tell you though is that ALICE IN DISSONANCE is now doing this full time thanks to the guys over at Sekai Project, our Kickstarter supporters, and Steam. This means the team’s lives are on the line so at the least that should assure you a certain level of tenacity. If you do decide to buy it, and ended up liking it, please spread the word! That will really help us out.
I hope this cleared things up!
Now… off I go to finalize milestone two..
Well, some times passed since this. At the time I though "well, I appreciate author's honesty and I'm not gonna buy it. I won't appreciate it as a novel I do nothing to shape in anyway". Well, I wanted to let you know that not only I eventually bought fault milestone one (it was on sale) but that I loved it and that I have just finished fault milestone two.
I never though I could appreciate VN. I just am not into the genre, actually. But I really love your work and it really can be awesome and meaningful at the same time.
Well, just wanted to write this down here, so that I can thank you for you have done in this two titles, to wish good luck with future releases (I look forward for them!) and to let other possible steam users that I was wrong and that MAY I GO STRAIGHT TO HELL IF I LIE SAYING I AM NOT LOVING THIS (kind of) NOVEL! I thought, since I cannot shape the story, it is not for me. I thouht that I love reading, but that I have plenty of books I can appreciate even more and for free (I stack books, ok?). Well, I was totally wrong. The story is awesome and convincing, there is no flat character, not even the "bad" guys or not even the secondary ones. And, jeez, you don't shape the story, but the story does shape you.
I'm not saying anything else here, as I plan to write an actual review for both of the chapters when I'll have the time to do so, but in the meanwhile, thank you very much and please, do feel in position to advice your work to any person who can appreciate a good story which is well written, if it is not what they were looking for. :)
