Linux / Steam OS support?
So your promotional videos stipulates "PC and Mac OS"... But PC means Linux / Mac / Windows / FreeBSD / etc.

Will there be a GNU/Linux build available in the future? :bpenguin:

I want to play your demo with my MIDI controller too! :)

I'm not affiliated with the developer in any way so please don't take this as a promise, but my SteamDB-monitoring twitter bot picked up signs of Linux support:

Let's stay patient and polite until any news hits. Viva la penguin :]

I really wanna make a Linux build!
I can't say when it could be out but I'd love to. I'm not a user so I'll need all the help I can get making sure I do it right. Which distros should I be targeting?
MIDI support looks like a tricky one since I haven't seen many MIDI libraries for Unity support Linux.

I'd love to see a version of this on Linux! I think the best distros to target would be Ubuntu (and not just because it's the one I use, but it's also the most popular!) and also the closely related SteamOS for obvious reasons.

I'm a really non-technical user so I can't personally offer help, but I'm rooting for you! :)

Ubuntu / Linux Mint are the most popular distributions, so if you target Ubuntu / Steam OS (remember Steam Runtime) you should be good.

would you guys feel weird if we shipped a Linux build that only had gamepad / keyboard / mouse support, no MIDI controller support?

Personally, I wouldn't feel too bad. Perhaps some clever folks could hack their way around it somehow.

I didn't even know what a MIDI controller was before I looked it up just now, but in general, I don't think that's a problem, as long as it's very clear from the store page that a feature is missing from one of the builds. An example that comes to mind is Sportsfriends, which mentions both in the short description and the about section that one of the game modes is missing from the Windows build. Missing MIDI controller support feels like less of an issue to me though (since I don't have one), but is definitely worth pointing out.

I personally would be fine with it not having MIDI controller support--I don't have such a controller and have no plans to get one. I'd be really happy with gamepad / keyboard / mouse support.

Clarification: I wouldn't feel any weirder than usual. :)

I'd be okay without it, but now that you mention it I've started looking at ALSA's headers to see how MIDI support works. What does the game use to interact with MIDI interfaces on the other platforms? Depending on how it works it might be possible to write a backend that supports something like ALSA's MIDI events API, then let the user hook the hardware up to PANORAMICAL's port with `aconnect`.

This is largely speculation based on reading the headers and skimming through the online documentation without any prior experience...

... so there's a good chance all of this is utter nonsense, and you'll have to use RawMidi or something.

If you ever want to add support for this, I'd be down for doing a bit more homework and figuring it out - it's what people pay me to do:

I've jumped to this thread a little late, but I suggest targeting plain Debian Linux. Many popular distros (Ubuntu, Mint, even SteamOS) are based in Debian, so you can't go wrong with it.

dont know if that will help but I am using Renoise

My midi controller works fine so maybe you could get some tips from their forums ? :o?

Proteus had Linux support, so I am certain PANORAMICAL will too in the future. :Robot1:
