Biggest problem
So right now my biggest problem with the game is the AI will constantly shuffle around resources. That keeps them from doing most other task. I try to build storage holes for them to place things in. Though they do not seem to utilize them I try to assign stockpile areas, but even then they will still pick things up and put them down 5 feet later only to pick them up again and move them in an endless cycle. Though I have encountered another problem. After about 1.5 hours of play everyone just stands still not moving anymore. Also they don't like to use weapons. I highly recommend equipment slots for the settlers. That way they don't need to pick up and put down weapons unless they find a better weapon. one time a settler kept picking up and putting down a spear for about 10 minutes.

I completely agree with the equipment slots. Say, one over the shoulder weapon (rifle, bow and arrow, spear) and one smaller weapon like a knife would be reasonable for a colonist in the wild to have at all times. I have lost a few colonists who randomly encountered a twinkler with nothing to defend themselves with.

I think the not moving part comes from the colonist being severely injured but not killed? Had that happened once where Lehner was just...stuck.

Yes, it is very frustrating that even though I have ranged weapons for everyone, along with spears and blades, they never think to actually carry any of them.

Every time there is a quadrite swarm attack (read: every five minutes) they all run around like keystone cops trying to remember when they left their weapons... then they use them once, run back and put their weapons away, then run back to the quadrites, panic, run back to their storage spot, fire one shot, put weapons away, run back to quadrites... ad nauseum.

Also I'd really like being able to actually target the little monsters myself instead of relying on the (poor) AI of the survivors to realize that maybe they should engage that threat with their ranged weapons before they're munching on their legs? Just a simple tagging system, with a preference for ranged or melee attack as available.

I think there are 3 issues described here.

REPEATING HAUL/PICK UP
1) "the AI will constantly shuffle around resources. That keeps them from doing most other task. I try to build storage holes for them to place things in. Though they do not seem to utilize them I try to assign stockpile areas, but even then they will still pick things up and put them down 5 feet later only to pick them up again and move them in an endless cycle."

-We're looking at this one now, seeing if we can reproduce it and fix it.

2) STANDING STILL/ NOT DOING TASKS
"After about 1.5 hours of play everyone just stands still not moving anymore." / "I think the not moving part comes from the colonist being severely injured but not killed? Had that happened once where Lehner was just...stuck."

-This one is always nasty, it's at the top of our list to get rid of (apart from crash bugs). Problem is, the bug can have many causes, and can be difficult to describe and reproduce. That's why we're developing a system called Replay, where players will be able to send us their playthroughs as a little file, then we can start the files on our computers and see everything the player has done leading up to the bug (or crash). We are well underway with this system but still takes a bit of work (sometimes the replay files work, but often they don't). Once it's in place we'll have a great tool for fixing these kinds of bugs.

3) WEAPON USE
"Also they don't like to use weapons. I highly recommend equipment slots for the settlers. That way they don't need to pick up and put down weapons unless they find a better weapon." / "I completely agree with the equipment slots. Say, one over the shoulder weapon (rifle, bow and arrow, spear) and one smaller weapon like a knife would be reasonable for a colonist in the wild to have at all times."

-This is something that we want to improve. For now, we're sticking with the system we have, where it's up to the characters to choose what weapons to carry and when. But we will tweak it so that they will put a higher importance on carrying weapons at all times - they should consider the surroundings dangerous, basically. The programmer is looking at it, and can maybe explain his ideas when he has had little time with it.

I tried to reproduce the problem but I did not manage to do that, we do however know this is an issue, so:

If you or anyone else playing the game would like to help us solve this bug, you can look for a replay file which was generated by the game when you played it. If you send it to us, we can sometimes see exactly what led up to the bug. To find the replay file, look in

C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Unclaimed World\Replays

Look at the list of files there. they are named like this:

Map name, year, month, day, hour, minutes, version number.

For example, a game named
DemoIslandMap 20140401 12 59 0.0.0.4.UWRep

comes from a game started on April 1st, 2014 at 12:59 (version 0.0.0.4)

You can see the time the game was ended by displaying Details and looking at the "Date modified". In this case, it says 01-04-2014 13:36

Use this information to find the correct replay file from the game that you want to supply a bug report for.

Please attach the file to an email that explains the problem and the time the bug occurs, and send it to support@unclaimedworld-game.com

thank you for your help!

I think a passable solution would be a simple IF hostile animal spotted THEN drop stuff and run over to grab a weapon. At least then they'd be showing some initiative, instead of waiting until they're actually under attack.

This seems related to #2, but will there be a way to manually assign tasks instead of just setting priority? I will have a long list of tasks lined up but only 2 people working on any of them, and even then the same task will have multiple people switch in and out of who is actually doing it.

+1 to replays for bugreport.
how can I check my replay?
I want to send you some of them with discription when and what fail, but I don't remember at what time in game and at what attempt (game) it was.
If I could check - my report will be like "look at 35:34 - 36:20. Yohan just freezes under attack" and not like "look at 6th or 9th attack of quadies (I suppose it was on 34th minute... or later). this guy just stay and do nothing"

Unfortunately it seems that if a problem doesn't happen within the first 10 minutes the file is pretty much useless. There replays sort of get corrupt in a way the longer you play. They are working on fixing that.

Yes, we have some technical difficulties with the replay files, so for now, don't send any. We are working on getting the system to work and will get back to you when/if this happens. fingers crossed
