Whew, glad I don't ask you, then--
--wait, scratch that. I'm totally okay with this idea.
So that there's a steeper price to be paid to wipe out someone else's stars instead of its being a spammable gamble.
Compare the two as insurance policy and passive repellent:
With Hyper Mode, opponents doen't gain anything from killing QP other than "wasting" QP's hyper and forcing a turn delay; at worse, opponents receive a heavy +2 ATK counter (Hyper Mode of course can also be used as a cheap ATK buff & Extend, but again, we're comparing apples to apples right now).
With Self-Destruct, not only does the opponents gain nothing from killing Alte, they stand to lose half their stars FOREVER should they succeed. Like I've mentioned earlier, whereas fighters can often chase down their killers to regain lost stars, Self-Destruct wipes the stars away.
There's a huge difference between "not allowed to use in the first place" and "not wise to spam because of cost"...
Just ask any long-time Hime player how easy it is to die at 2~3 HP with that -1 DEF. Collectors with -1 ATK won't likely kill you, but fighters can and certainly will at a regular basis. Whereas potential attackers wouldn't gain anything from killing QP with Hyper Mode, they stand to lose a lot by trying to kill Alte with Self-Destruct.
I'd still say a lot of this is kneejerk, though. It'd be smarter to let some time pass and see if her Hyper really is all that ridiculous in its current state. It's very unique in that it does something almost nothing else in the game does (And especially not anything consciously activated), that being flat out erasing stars from the pool while not giving anything back for it (While it does give an attack boost the first use merely normalizes her with Hime of all units rather than be some immense gain). The potential costs of this are thus something that isn't readily in player's minds (Sky Restaurant is free and aimless in that it's a Trap Card, after all) nor has an easy point to compare it to.
Compared to QP's Hyper Mode, Alte's Self-Destruct is more threatening to her attacker, but less useful to herself, comes into play much later in the game, and can very well end up doing absolutely nothing except waste your stars if you don't use it in optimal conditions. I don't see how this makes Alte's hyper so much better than QP's as to warrant an increase in the star cost - like I said before, as far as I'm concerned, they're about even in overall usefulness.
You're acting as if the card was usable for free. It's not. 10 stars, while fairly cheap as far as hypers are concerned, is still quite a lot and can set you back several turns.
Besides, if "spamming" hypers is a concern, there are much, much worse offenders out there. Again, Alte really doesn't have much else going for her, so why take that from her, too? It's like saying Poppo's hyper should cost 30 stars because of how game-changing and spammable it is.
I know very well how easy it is to die at low HP. It's still far from guaranteed unless the opponent rolls 7 or higher. Your point?
The solution to Alte's Self-Destruct is as simple as the one to QP's Hyper Mode: use Gift Exchange, Exchange, Flame Thrower, Shield Counter, or even just ignore them outright. Against a lot of characters, Alte will have a bad time if she plays overly aggressively, and if she uses her hyper offensively to suicide-bomb you, that's honestly not much different than getting murdered by Suguri's Accelerator, Sora's Specs, or any of the other combat hypers (and can be guarded against by pretty much the same methods - even Shield works!), except that unlike all those other hypers, Alte doesn't gain any stars from it. It will increase her Atk, sure, but that on its own doesn't win you games, especially when you start out at 0.
(exept for love and slight obsession and that doesn't count)
It's not that i have anything against Alte but damn if she just went from "pretty-evenly-matched-with-Hime" to Sora-Marc-Poppo class
...Makes Hime player sad
Hime starts out better than Alte, and has an incomparible hyper that isn't that bad. I've seen some good plays, but it's kinda late game for what it does. Binding Chain can really screw people over with Lonely Chariot or anything with multiple turns to set up.
Self-Destruct is a counter to Shield Counter.
Also QP's hyper actually counters it, somewhat, as it technically protects your stars and doesn't count as a kill for your opponent. Alte's hyper specifically prevents stars from being gained as the result from being KO'd, and then subtracts your opponent's stars.
As such, SD vs HM means both die, Alte gets +1 Atk, QP revives next turn, and no stars are lost/gained nor wins granted for either.
But SD vs SD means they both die, but only the first to die gains +1 Atk, the other one loses half their stars.
SD does not protect your stars from being lost.
Oh, Self-destruct definitely still works even if the other character uses Shield Counter! Go to about 10:50 in this video and see for yourself:

While it may be worth further investigation, I don't think she needs to be immediately changed. Hime, on the other hand, should probably have Binding Chain moved to at least level 3.
Changes:
-Poppo has learned the Blink ability*
-You can now join a game in progress as soon as the game starts, as opposed to after the first chapter.
-You can now see Last Played With users in the Steam interface.
Fixes:
-Alte’s Self-destruct stack no longer incorrectly resets after a 4th successful Self-destruct.
-2x Battle panels should no longer stay extra long when Miracle coincides with Battlefield event.
-A bug sometimes causing chat messages to be attributed to CPUs should now be fixed.
-Lobby Random filter settings now update when the host changes.
-Fixed various small graphic errors in unit sprites.
*(The taskbar icon now blinks when ALT+TABbed when something important happens in the game, such as a player joins your room, all other players have pressed Ready, it’s your turn in multiplayer, etc.)
NOTE: All players in a game must be running the same version.
All hail the new and improved Tomomo's shoe! Glad Kyoko's roll animation got fixed, that was the error that really stood out for me. =D
