Carpet Bombing?
Is it worth it? Only with a dedicated ship? Can it be done hit-and-run or do I need to stay in orbit?

Edit: what about troop pods too? It seems they need to be quite large to be able to take over high loyalty planets, and with only 1 use before needing a refill I don't see them being useful for extended time in enemy territory.

From what I heard, carpet bombing is quite OP. Allows you to effectively take out the hostile main world without having to beat the hostile fleets (possibly move above or below it).

Actually, just move quickly. 3D movement might help, but it is by no means required.

Wouldn't the bombs hit the supports surrounding the planet, even if moving fast?

I don't think carpet bombs can hit non-planets.

Carpet bombs can only target and hit Planets nothing else.
Carpet bombs are powerful.
A dedicted ship for harrasement is the best option.
Carpet bombs vs Mono = GG Mono.
Carpet Bomb the enemies T3 and above worlds
If you wish to hurt them in the early game hit every planet T1 or above that's easy to hit without risking the ship.
Speed helps in keeping yourself safe
Armour isn't as important as speed here, your hitting and running in general. As long as you can survive 20-30 seconds with the defences in place and still escape your fine to go.

Troop pods, are pretty meh, The same can be achieved with just cheap disposable small planet capturing flagships.

One thing that comes to mind about the Carpet bombs is that I don't think they would have any effect on The First.
