New DLC contains 'AI Generated Content'
The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We employ generative AI technologies during the creation of some assets. Typically this involves the ideation of content and visual reference material. These elements represent a minor component of the overall development. AI has been used to generate voices for an AI antagonist and a player advisor.

Oof. Sorry Paradox, it's been a good 1000 hours and 8 years, but after Astral Plains, the enormous price of the DLC, and then adding an AI Generated Content disclaimer after it went on sale... I am out :(

Ethical use of AI technology is very important to us - we're pretty good at exploring dystopian sci-fi and don't want to end up there ourselves.

I'll have the team put together a dev diary on how we use AI tools a couple of weeks from now.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good luck lmao. If you raise your prices once, you never lower them or it will make you look weak and people to expect prices to remain on the sane level.

And this is Paradox. Only bottom line matters.

lol all companies the bottom line matters, its called share holder value. Wake up.

Well.. don't think we are that far from that reality tbh. :P

Do remember that there is a thing called humorous discussion, where most people are not too serious about the issue, when they even say things like "Welcome The Machine Age!" pointing at the DLC that was just released as a joke because related to the whole point of the DLC where there is AI character done by AI voice. :LaughingOwlcat:

(And yes yes, my non-native english is also to blame occasionally, but most people can read my rants and see they are pure humor/satire, and sometimes using same exaggerations as others in the thread just amuses me, so it's like extra content on top of DLC content. :P tbh forum content on Stellaris DLC days have become quite entertaining for the last year i have been in here. Pretty much only MMO game forums tops it, the mmo one game andies are the only more fanatic group in a funny way).

Enjoy your day tho. ^^

Yep, AI DLC about AI and only AI contains AI generated voice

and somehow people jump into conclusions that human race is being actively erased by robots

Yeah, they are using an AI to generate the voice for an in-game AI. Why is that a bad thing?
For some people, the mere use of AI = a bad thing on principle. Doesn't matter how small or big the use is, or for what exactly; it just crosses the line on principle, apparently.
That's because perceived value comes from human labor, at least when artistic or creative things are involved. If there's no human labor, there's no value. This is something I realized after using image generators for over a year and a half.

This is the reason why luxury cars have hand-crafted components, while hand-painted picture is worth more than its photograph, while hand-crafted statue is worth more than its print or cnc machined version, while hyperrealistic paintings where somebody handpaints a perfect copy of a photo is a thing, and so on.

From that it follows that using AI content lowers value of your product.

It is seen in stable diffusion images. When you recognize it as a generated, its value drops like a rock, and you have an RPG-maker effect equivalent.

Stellars could do better job with their adverts and list what they ai generated and how. Because upon seeing "AI generated" label people will just assume all art in the game was made with AI image generators and its perceived value will be zero.

Well, according to lead dev up above they'll be releasing a blog specifically about that.

It kinda should be on the page with "AI disclosure", not somewhere else.

Either way, I am a passerby, and simply chimed in to explain why it works this way.

Can't wait for the future when AI generated stuff is the norm and these snowflakes have to "opt out" of literally everything and go live life as a hermit in the woods. AI is the future, it's inevitable, and crying about some art or voices on a forum will do absolutely nothing to stop it.

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal… Even in death I serve the Omnissiah.

This is much appreciated - the more information the better.
Who cares... As long as 99% of the game is made by the devs, I don't find it to be that big of a deal.

I'd much rather be a hermit in the woods tbh. No need to worry about all the morons surrounding me the majority of the day.

It does say what it's used in on the store page, and has since the DLC was posted: (bolded bits for emphasis)

These elements represent a minor component of the overall development. AI has been used to generate voices for an AI antagonist and a player advisor.
It's used to create references (color palettes examples, reference images for the artists, etc). This part is actually pretty common among artists to speed up the process as going through color palettes is a pain and the artist still actually paints - it's just to get ideas faster. It's also used to generate AI voices for a new AI antagonist and advisor.
