Building the orbital research stations goal
So there's that objective to build research stations, 0/4. I have way more than 4, have at least like 20. I'm guessing a new president gets elected and my previous count returns back to 0/4 built before I can get 4 quickly enough. Why not just count the orbital research stations total, I have so many!

Unsure if this is a bug or just a part of the game that I'm easily overlooking because I don't look at the objectives tab often enough.

Are you sure it means the research stations and not the OBSERVATION stations? I made that mistake on something else once.

This is an election platform. Imagine your leader got elected saying that "If I am elected I will build 4 mineral stations!". If you build it during his term, you get a reward, if not you don't. If another person gets elected you might get another platform entirelly. Some will want to institute slavery, or give indepence to a species, etc.

So yeah newly elected president will reset that number. But why not include an "or" condition as well? So "Build 0/4 Research Stations or have 0/6 operational." And then continue to up that number as the game continues. I understand the goals, sometimes I just don't have the minerals yet, but I might after the election.

Because El Presidete promised the space oil companies he will build them *more* stations.

"I already built you stations, vote for me again!"
"That was 5 years ago, what will you pay me *this* time?"

Normally, when elections roll up, I check who is going to win, then tear down 4 of the station types so that I can just rebuild them for the influence points.

As for the "or" clause? Why not just give you the points since you're getting it for free if you already got the stations. They want you to work for the points, not have it as a free handout.

The terms last 5 years, IIRC, that should be enough time to build 4 stations, right? But in any case, it's not that big of a deal. The reward is just an amount of influence. It's nice, but you can certainly live without it.

What's the next objective after that, just more influence?

You need the influence. A lot of it.

It's a once only thing. A minor objective you get once per mandate. Once you complete it, you'll only see it again next election. And what it will be depends on who gets elected. You can see what the objectives for each candidate are on the election screen.
