Eirik's Bear?

So I have done a bit of snooping around to find frequent mention of Eirik's supposed ability for a bear companion? I have yet to encounter this on any of my playthroughs with the character? Bugs Perhaps? What exactly is everyone talking about when it comes to Eirik and the bear?

You have to go off the main path when you first enter the swamp, this angers the natives and they attack in force. Eirik will mention that they have wartrained bears and that he could tame one if you can capture it. You have to make sure the last enemy on the map is a bear and then you can have him use an ability to capture it. From then on he can summon it in battle as a special ability.

Pretty much this. The bear ability is not bad. The bear itself will always go next in the turn order after you summon it, it has a similar ability to Folka (have to get rid of its shield first) and has something like 13/14 armour/strength

I did summon it as a chokepoint to protect a varl hero one time when he was about to get mobbed by a bear tamer and two warbears. The luckiest outcome ever.

I'm happy that he gets a bear, I loved his character in the first chapter of the game. His laid back attitude to everything was a funny contrast and they ignored him in this sequel until, well, he got a bear.
