"Could not find output pin!" Error
Every time I try to play (on Windows 8.1) I get presented with a white screen and the error "Could not find output pin! hr=0x80040216"

Anyone else experiencing this?

It's an unusual error, but I've googled it and based on the answer I've heard from other games and forums... the problem might be caused when the program tries to run the mpg introduction movies as the game launches. I've tried renaming the MOVIES folder and removing the files too, but it causes the game to crash anyway, so that's out of the question.

It's a bit of a cliche but have you tried updating your NVIDIA drivers? The move to Windows 8.1 could be the issue if NVIDIA haven't updated their drivers for it perhaps?

8.1 has been out for a while and Nvidia have issued plenty of updates since then, that shouldn't be a problem. I keep my drivers up to date.

Cannot think what the problem would be then. You can google it but I doubt this error will come up for this particular game. It's an old game so there may just be a compatibility issue.

Got the same bug on Win7 x64 Ultimate with Radeon HD7870. Bottom line: bought the game but can't launch it!

The cause is most likely video codecs installed on your machine. For example ffdshow, lavfilters, or any codec pack. The game should run after you uninstall them.

Thanks for the advice! After I uninstalled LAV Filters (installed them separately, don't use any codec pack, instead I use Daum PotPlayer) the game started working.

I installed Haali / Matroksa splitter and it seems to be working now... but yeah either way looks like video codecs are the cause

Awesome game by the way, so glad it works now!

Is there a workaround that doesn't involve uninstalling codecs? I rather like how my media playback is configured. Maybe by dropping a dll locally into the games folder?

^ same here ....
almost 3 years and no fix for this game except uninstalling codec ?

Same here and for some special motives i can't unistall LAV or ffdshow, i read something to put the MASHED.exe on the LAV registry blacklist but it didn't work. Any help? :/

Uninstalling LAV Filters resolved the issue for me. Thank you!

i finally found the solution on windows 10.
lav filter, codec packs, all of this did not work for me.

i went into the games folder, /stean/steanapps/common/mashed/TOASTART/PC/MOVIES

There you will find the mpeg 2 videos that mashed uses. i opened one of them movies, windows media player told me that i need codecs aus dem windows store.
i downloaded them officially over the windows store and the game works since then.
