How moddable is NMS?
When people here say it's moddable what do they mean exactly? What I can actually modify/change in the game?

We can unpack game's files and modify them... the textures, shaders, etc, files that contain values for global variables. There are mbin files that are important and aren't editable with a standard text editor, but people are working on reverse engineering them to edit them. Some mods already make some edits to mbin files.

It's not mod-centric like Skyrim or anything. It can maybe be made mod-friendly with some developer provided tools, though.

Client side mods only really. Remember that Hello Games runs the servers, so it's not like someone can mod in an alien base with attacking NPCs or something like that.

I mean they could I guess, but the experience would be purely client-side. Of course, this is a single player game now, despite what was said, so I guess that wouldn't matter too much.

Modding in AI and stuff might be tough client-side though...

Nothing runs on the servers. I never play with internet access and everything works. Everything is handled client-side.

Right, so any mods are mainly going to be aesthetics. We will see what they provide as far as modding in gameplay, but I don't see how someone could really mod in anything with AI yet.

Thanks for the link, I actually hoped to replace mouse functionality, so you can actually click on everything in a normal way but I guess that would require changing the source code in some disassembler...

Not to mention making you rown interface...
