Door on Cylindrical Room won't open?
I had to build a Cylindrical Room with a door for a quest, long story short when I power them I can't get the door to open? Is there something I'm missing?

Yup , it works backwards, only when the door is without power will it be open, there are a few ways to arrange parts, switches etc to make it work, but there's no real benefit or reward for doing so.

I feel like when I played many years ago, this was not something. When you put a door in, it opened when you walked into it. Seriously, I'm at a loss for understanding.

HG wanted to implement something like Minecraft's redstone, but much worse and less useful.

It's set up that way to keep prospective homeowners from locking themselves in.

We have switches, pressure plates, proximity sensors and inverters. To make a doorway that isn't simply a hole in the wall you need to grok some basic electrical theory and link some of these other things to that door with a bunch of wires.

The alternative is a bank vault that won't open unless the power is cut.

and so you can walk in and build inside without power
its always been like this with prefabs since they came out
it def aint being to be like minecraft
i dont get how its so hard to understand either :steammocking:

The wire is the control for the door, not the power. The door defaults to open (so, for example, you don't get locked in when the battery runs out), and a powered wire closes it.

To control it using proximity, you can use a proximity switch or a pressure plate wired to an inverter, which is wired to the door.

You can also do more complicated stuff, like wire two switches to the door, so flipping either one toggles the door open or closed, or even make a puzzle base where opening the door is based on something completely different.

A holo door, or an unpowered door will let you through as you please if you don't want to deal with wiring.

There are also doors in the non-prefab construction parts that just open/close automatically as you pass through them, but not for the prefabs.

it is a safety thing so if power fails while you are inside you can get out... it is called "fail open" and it saves lives ;)
