Experimental Branch 23/07
Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you've experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We'll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and press "CHECK CODE", then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch Update 26/07
  • Fixed an issue that caused the freighter to appear in the warp tunnel while playing in VR.

Experimental Branch Update 25/07
  • Players can now place specific variants (straight/T-Junction/X-Junction) of freighter glass corridors.
  • Fixed an issue that caused ByteBeat music to play over the top of the intended settlement bar music.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to interact with their ship while it was being salvaged for scrap.
  • Fixed a rare blocking issue that could prevent portals from working correctly when triggered on the Artemis path while very close to the centre of the galaxy.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented freighter doors and windows from being automatically deleted if the room they are attached to is deleted.

Experimental Branch Update 24/07
  • Fixed an issue that prevented teleporters from working correctly on derelict freighters.
  • Fixed a crash related to the Fleet Command room.

Experimental Branch 23/07
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent building within very tall freighter bases.
  • Fixed a rare visual glitch caused by the Exosuit backpack being incorrectly scaled.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed bases from blocked players to still be synced in some circumstances.
  • The UI now displays additional feedback after feeding a living frigate and evolving new traits.
  • The visual effects for harvest plants within freighter bio rooms have been improved.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some posters to use the wrong texture.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from claiming earned frigates from the list of past expedition rewards.
  • Fixed an issue that caused too many wires to be removed when deleting a connected base part (such as a switch).
  • Fixed an issue that left ladders behind when deleting their attached room on a freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that caused multiplayer freighter bases to be missing on PlayStation 4.
  • Introduced a number of rendering optimisations for freighter bases.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented people from acquiring a living frigate if they changed their system clock.
  • Fixed a number of cases where base parts (and planters) were not being powered correctly in some freighter base configurations.
  • Fixed an issue that awarded players the resources gathered by NPC asteroid miners.
  • Supporting scaffolds have been added to the underside of elevated freighter base parts.
  • Players now always know the freighter bulkhead door, to prevent them from being trapped if they delete all exits to a room.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from skipping cinematic black bars while in an Exocraft.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent newly-purchased frigates from joining up with the fleet.
  • Fixed a number of visual glitches in freighter room parts.
  • Players may now harvest carbon from the plants growing on the walls of their agricultural freighter rooms.
  • Fixed a number of memory-related crashes, particularly on PlayStation4 and Xbox 1.
  • Fixed a crash related to base building.
  • Fixed a crash related to freighter loading.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

It's always been here, just normally it is pinned to the top of the forum. It is also a great way for HG to track feedback specific to the Experimental build before it gets pushed out to everyone.

The real question is why does this make you sad??

In biological themed rooms, now I can harvest carbon but the problem is it says this: UI_FRE_PLANTER_LABEL. In polish translation (english is okay) there is no description for certain new parts and they are named incorrectly. There is also some weird graphical issue with distant asteroids, they look green and red.

Why is this no longer pinned to the top of the thread????
Experimental build discussions should have their own channel IMO. Would allow better discussions from the players instead of pouring all issues into one thread.

Aw dammit you bastards lol
Possible bug?

The duration of the biofuel reactor seems overdone....just adding a single carbon runs it for 45 mins.

Intended?
Is the experimental branch a separate game file download? And why isn't this pinned?

Yes but to be clear you either run the Exp build OR you run the normal (release build). The size can vary a lot. This update was over 1GB (iirc)
Can someone pin this?

I know it took me a while to find. The only reason I ended up finding it was because someone posted the link on reddit

For real though, you are acting like a troll in this and several other topics. We don't need more of those in this community, please change your behavior or leave.

Thanks.
You guys are quick! Second round of bug fixes already. Hoping this makes my missing newly-bought frigates appear. :-)
Plants don't seem to be growing anymore in the freighter, even frostwort, which grows very quickly hasn't matured since I last harvested yesterday and I have been playing for hours today doing Anomaly missions.

Derelict Freighter exploring is bugged, initial teleporter not working, robo drones spawn to high up almost in ceiling.
Experimental branch is no longer pinned ; )
