Experimental Branch 16/08 Update
Hello everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing BEYOND and letting us know about any issues you’ve experienced. It’s overwhelming to watch thousands of players begin or continue their journey across the universe.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a rapid patch to fix a number of crashes and other problems seen since release. We’ll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man’s Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab. Enter “3xperimental” in the textbox and press “CHECK CODE”, then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Update to Experimental Branch 16/08
  • Fix to prevent issues with base ownership.
  • Improve messaging for error messaging at start-up.
  • Fix for freighter crash related to corrupt ship slot.
  • Fix for crash when game is shutting down on certain GFX cards.
  • Fix for crash failing to initialising graphics card on specific mix of card and driver.
  • Deal with game initialising while minimized.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

who thought it was a good idea to use the trigger for movement, and when are you firing said person?

You can change that...
the game keeps reverting to "standard" texture quality when I could play using ultra just fine before the latest patch. Experimental mode isn't downloading anything. I never had any problems with v2.00 until this patch. Ridiculous.
Hi,i'm not in the Experimental branch, but when playing multiplayer i can't interact with normal NPCs (not merchants, but those who will teach you new words). I'm the host, and my friend, who is joining my game has no problem about that.
Still have invisible ground and player when finally getting into the game after 15 or so minutes.
The game is just no launching even when Experimental code was typed.
Do I need to have base version NMS 2016 ?

Please for suggestions.
4+ patches later. key mapping?? who needs that in 2019?

not exactly a priority lol if you have that as your main issue, at least you can play the game. im sure it will come back after people are no longer walking on invisible planets
Having issues with the game forcing me to be on standard setting for texture settings, this is from when you added the feature of changing settings when game is going out of memory. Could you add it as a toggle? I had no issues setting the graphics on high, outside of low FPS which I don't mind.

Same here, textures are now blurry. Wish they will give us an option to turn that off in the settings.

Edit: I am testing turning off TexturestreamingVk in settings could stop it, default is Auto

I didn't even get low fps, solid 60. THE ONLY TIME I GET LAG IS WHEN IT REVERTS TO STANDARD. Absolute BS.

It should definitely be a priority fix, oh man some people are walking on invisible planets at least they can play the game. There's plenty of people out there haven't even been able to try this update because they can't use the default key binds for the game.
