Experimental Branch 02/06
Hello Everyone,
First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you've experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We'll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and press "CHECK CODE", then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch 02/06
  • Added support for reflections on PC VR.
  • Improved the appearance of rain.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause missing or corrupted text in the Analysis Visor on the Space Anomaly or derelict freighters.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause stars to disappear when looking out the side of the ship in VR.
  • Fixed some mistranslated text in the ByteBeat Library.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

Could you fix the stars from being super close and large in VR? It gives me and my boyfriend a headache from it cause how large they are, and its even worse in DLSS.

Hello, after updating Prisms I am having problems with textures. The fauna discovered earlier acquired a blue-white color, and the flora, instead of leaves, received incomprehensible crystalline weaves. NPCs now look like shadows and exosuits look like porcelain. Probably I am writing about this problem in the wrong section, I apologize for that.

Are atmospheric harvesters ever going to be fixed? If not please remove from game. The max credits is still a 32 bit unsigned integer, please change to 64 bit. Other than that the Prisms update seems to have fixed, mostly, micro-stuttering on the PC, and my frame rate has gone back up to making the game enjoyable again. GTX1080 still, so a bit behind the times, but it works better now.
Hi i noticed the same with the stars they are closer than the terrain in vr they need to be 2d maybe.
Many thanks to HG; these updates are amazing!
Would you please add an option to use a oculus motion controller thumbstick for flight control in vr? or providing xbox controller option.

Agreed, I would also like the option to use the thumbstick controls for flight.
I see zero difference in performance with DLSS on or off. Framerate is exactly the same. I got a RTX 2070 and I7 6600k clocked to 4.5 ghz. Playing with a 3440x1440 resolution with around 60 frames near places with a lot of buildings and ships. So DLSS does not seem to work. Anyone else reported about any issues with DLSS?

I have a similar setup, I will give it a try and see if I get the same results. FWIW, make sure you have V-Sync off? That could be limiting you to 60 FPS if you haven't checked that.
Please fix creature spawning. It's obvious that something is bugged and at least 2 water species NEVER spawn 😔

But dayum, this list of improvements looks outstanding 😃
Thanks

I just enabled it on my PC, Ryzen 3700X, RTX 2080, and w/ Ultra settings I went from about 50-60 FPS to 80-100 FPS with DLSS Balanced mode enabled. This was in a new game with just base terrain around so...not sure if that helps or not but DLSS is DEFINITELY helping me out. I think I may run with everything on High, then use Quality DLSS to get better overall frame rates.

Please HG. For the love of all that is good, let us change the controls to roll with the mouse. and turn (rudder) with A/d. This has been the sole reason I've not played this game into any real depth. Give us this option please!
So just fired this up after the beta update today to add PCVR reflections and now i have no option at all for DLSS in VR completely gone from the AA settings (EDIT: found the solution and posted in general, Driver related not patch related)

Before the update, I was working on those side missions on improving the base.
I got the science and weapon station with the people running them and the quests I had for them are now gone
