Can you steal from storage containers on other players bases?
I've just found a random players base. I landed and no one was home. I noticed they had some storage containers so I had a look to see if I could access them and to my surprise I could - It allowed me to transfer resources from them into my Exosuit.... is this something that is supposed to be possible? Is there anyway to prevent people doing the same at my base?

No. When you open containers at someone else's bases, you see you see the contents of your own containers.

When you access the storage unit you are actually seeing the content of your unit. You just stole from yourself. :steamhappy:

In No Man's Sky you don't steal from other players, you steal from yourself lmao. :higgledysizz:

Well played OP, you committed a crime without any criminal consequence. Next stop: Murder yourself via grenades...:steamhappy:

I just landed on a planet in a blue star system yesterday and I went to someone's base that has a activated Indium mine. I clicked on "E" out of curiosity to see if I could get the Indium out of all supply depots and to my surprise, I could.! I did take it all and got kind of rich. Sorry to that person in taking it all. Couldn't help it. No one or thing to stop me. The mines do replenish it all, but takes some time. I meant to take a pic of that planet or another interesting planet in that same system with portal codes, and I'm sorry I didn't. :( That may have been the first and last time to that planet.

I think it works like this, you act against a copy of the base downloaded from HG server, if you now empty its mineral silos, this is only registered in your copy, the owner will probably not notice anything, because the entire base is stored in his save file, and there you can not affect anything.

correct me if I'm wrong..

You stole from yourself and you didn't even know it, it's the perfect crime! :P

Close enough. If you empty refiners, extractors, gas harvesters, and AMUs while he is on line or pick plants at his base it does affect him. If he's off line at the time there is no effect on him. It will be as if it didn't happen.

I can confirm that this is what happens as I have tested it.

Thanks for that information, and also to others that reported the same. I guess, now I don't feel as bad. Lol Otherwise I could build myself a jail to put myself in.

Isn't there a way to block anyone from taking from your base in the settings if I remember correctly at one place I couldn't even harvest a single plant

You can have anything you can carry off from any base I've built.

No, just from altering what you have built. The thing is that when you sign off there is a known bug that can empty out your refiners, empty out your gas and oxygen harvesters, and empty out your AMUs so you wouldn't know if they had been pillaged even though the odds are extremely low of someone finding your base in the wild.
