Anyone know what happened? Rights expire, something else?

I would guess it's a rights issue. The game was also removed from Google Play and iTunes.

I almost pulled the trigger on it not too long ago. Grrr!

It was pulled because there is a reboot coming.

Directly from Turner Broadcasting:
Hi Jason! We recently announced a PPG reboot coming to CN next year, and we have new licensees, so we sunset the game to avoid any brand confusion. I thought that might be the case but wanted to confirm before reporting back to you. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else and have a great weekend-

Thanks for the update, Jason, though the explanation is truly ludicrous! I wonder if they're going to torch and pulverize every remaining DVD of the original cartoon as well, just to be sure that it won't be confused with the new show!

Doesn't seem to make sense either, considering that the game used the new shows artstyle anyway.
what on earth! thats the stupidist reason for deleting a game ive heard! they DESTROY a game cause they dont want people to be "confused" with the new reboot? the heck. im just glad i bought this game before it was taken down! man what some people do is just insane.

WTF i really wanted to get it but i had SOOOOO many games on my wishlist. But new lisenses means they get rid of the old merch? Why not renew it? They might as well trade the old fans for entirely new fans

Well that's disappointing, especially as I find it hard to believe that the market for these games on Steam overlaps significantly with the people who would care about, and be confused by that sort of thing. Somewhat puts me off the "reboot" to boot.

Yeah, I'm always surprised with games like this (and Deadpool for example) that they don't have an "about to be removed from sale" sale; surely it's a pretty good way to make that last little bit of money and give everyone who's on the fence about purchasing a chance to actually buy it.

I dunno but I think Steam might have a policy against announcing removals before hand. No big publisher has ever given warning, that's why I think that might be the case.

Yeah, Steam would lose reputation if gaming media were constantly announcing "Popular X publisher is going to remove it's game from Steam platform!" / "Another game about to be removed from Steam"

Well I think some could abuse it. A failed project could get a bunch of sales from people wanting copies to thuggishly overprice in the future
