FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR THE G4WL CLIENT FOR GAMES REQUIRING IT!
G4WL Client LINK: DIRECTLY FROM MS!

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-setup/games-for-windows-live-info
*** It appears MS has changed this link to the instructions page for installing XBox Games
under Windows 10... Pure laziness on their part as far as I am concerned. I guess it was
too much for them to setup, layout, and activate a new page all of the sudden?? ***

***For a fresh link to G4WL Client check Hedraun post below for the client and then check
out the spicygamethunder's post, also below, for a guide to use setting it up.***

Games for Windows Live explained for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 on this page.

Games for Windows Live is an app that allows you to connect to the Xbox Live service
from your Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 devices. This means that you can
use your Xbox gamertag to play supported Games for Windows Live titles online.

If you have a Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 device, click here, and then follow
the steps to install the Games for Windows Live app. ( Client DL link ^^ )

If you have a Windows 10 device, you can now use the Xbox app to connect to the Xbox
Live service. Visit How to sign in to the Xbox app on Windows 10 for more info on the
Xbox app, and also How to install Xbox games on Windows 10.

If you’re having problems installing the Games for Windows Live app, or connecting to
the Xbox Live service, see Troubleshoot Games for Windows Live connection problems.

I hope this info helps ANYONE who needs the client.

I just used the download link "click here" above today. Monday, 12-10-2018! It works!

UPDATE FOLKS!!

I just tried the link again today, Thursday, August 1, 2019 and it STILL WORKS!

Go to the link page above and read the line: "If you have a Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 device, click here, and then follow the steps to install Games for Windows Live app.

The here identified above as "click here," is the link. It is color coded different than the other words next to it indicating that it is the link. Left Click the word "here" and after a few seconds you should get the download popup at the bottom of your screen. Best recommendation is to "Save as" and send it to a folder on your computer that you can easily find it in later and save it after you have installed it in case you need it again in the future.

Considering that STEAM has, with the help of Discord, brought Blacklight Tango Down back as a single player game (with multiplayer possibly available too) it might be helpful to have this last version of G4WL on hand to install if the game still requires it.

Hoe this is helpful for everyone!

Thank you for spreading the word on this LDWH1. And I agree. Everyone should download and save the client for future use. Microsoft won't keep it for very long. Considering support for Win7 is ending soon and Win 10 apparently is not compatible it does not stand much of a chance that they will keep it available.

Hard to say if they will discontinue the availability of Windows Live since so many older game still require it. I think they are stuck with offering it as a service. I have both GFWL and BLTD installed on both a Win 7 and 10 computers and they function fine. So I think it being unintentionally compatible with Windows 10 means it'll be a necessity. I saved it just incase a member of our Discord needs it if they do remove it.

Never hurts to have the files. Only hurts when you DON'T have them. It's too bad STEAM has not thought to add it to their free tools software list so it is available right here.. Too much thought I guess?

They wouldn't even have to do anything to it to bind it to STEAM. Just make the file available so those who need it can download it.

You do realize you are talking about STEAM right?
Hedraun Aug 17, 2019 @ 11:01am
They wont cause that involves work and Steam wont even fix basic problems at this point. I did save it just incase cause that would be the best plan. I am under suspicion that despite the game being Peer to peer and not using servers the game uses WL and is utilizing the Xbox servers so I would imagine that if the Xbox server were to go down the online functions for BLTD would not work.

Perzactly my point.

Xbox is readjusting their website and reconfiguring things. I could not find the old links content for GFWL on their website easily although it may be there somewhere. This link to get the software is still available via this Microsoft link.

WORKING LINK FOR GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE
Click on the link and a new window will open and at the very bottom a download prompt will open. Click Save As rather than Run if you haven't already saved a backup of the GFWL file.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for updating the post Hedraun!!! ANY contributions that keep information available to other gamers is welcome!
spicygamethunder Jan 17, 2020 @ 12:13pm
I'm of the same opinion, I've created a guide to try and centralize all known fixes for games that use GFWL on Steam. I'd be happy to include any additional confirmed fixes that anyone has to share.
