It really depends on which platform you prefer. Personally, I'd go with Steam because it has Steam Workshop.

The GoG version can use mods, but it doesn't integrate with the Steam Workshop, so you can only install mods if you manually download the mod files from some place. (GoG doesn't have a mod workshop as far as I know.) However, if a player with GoG joins a multiplayer lobby running a custom map, they will automatically download the map and they'll be able to play it even if that map is only on the Steam Workshop.

How come the Linux version hasn't come to GOG ? Any plans for that ?

Because we use Steam or Galaxy for multiplayer a GOG Linux version would have to wait until GOG Galaxy comes for Linux.

Thanks for at least providing an explanation, most devs don't. Sucks for single player gamers such as myself who prefer DRM free but it is what it is.
