Skill check difficulty calculation?
I recently wondered how the skills are calculated. I then clicked the question mark and voilà were all the details. However, these seem to be off by several percent or I might miss something. See the image in the link and tell me why the final difficulty is 70% when total modifiers are +105% and the base is 0%.

Actually difficulty details are often well off actual final difficulty. That's one of the bugs I've encountered, in particular with "hide" calculations, where details usually were waaaaay off the mark. What can you do, the game was made on tight budget, without serious beta test.... :)
This definitely seems like a bug. This calculation was working fine for me until sometime in the Bloom, then it stopped lining up (and very much not in my favour). Will be supplying bug report to inXile..
From InXile support....

"Thanks for passing this along. Unfortunately, we don't have any kind of workaround to offer. Will let the dev team know, though."

Kind of a frustrating response. I guess we need more people to report this issue??

Still nothing :( Pretty sad as this is effectively a showstopper bug. Would be exceedingly difficult to play the game with this bug in place.. as such I have never been able to complete the game. InXile - please help!!
Good gods and I wanted to buy that game. Thanks for saving me money.
The calculation is ok, the only thing missing is the real base difficulty. In Numenera nearly all checks are against the opponents level, that is the base.

The calculations is like this:
opponent level * 3 = number which needs to be rolled over on 1d20 (potentially +/- some value to make it harder or easier, GM discretion) - this is hidden here, in p&p players usually are given this number by the GM, but it's not mandatory

You put here 5 levels of effort, making this check target lower by effort*3 (+1 from some minor skill), I got no idea where the +100% came from, but in effect you got a target of 7 or higher out of 20 (70% chance), meaning difficulty level 2 (2*3, 6 and one more to pass), and so the base opponent level was a super high 7 (impossible to roll, you'd need a 21 on 1d20).

Overall, the game abstracts too much of Numenera mechanics, hence the confusion. On the other hand most players have trouble getting their head around these calculations (I know this from running Numenera on the tabletop).
