Bug Report: Game Crash upon finale objective of Blitz Play
COMMUNITY WORKAROUND AT BOTTOM OF POST!

I seem to be unable to finish this story mission as the game crashes upon changing to Michaels point of view upon completing the mission objective of destroying the garbage truck used for the heist.

My system meets the recommend requirements to run the game and I have had no issues so far otherwise.

I have now completed the mission 5 times, trying out a couple of things;
  • Initiate the mission with each of the main characters.
  • Complete various side missions before taking on Blitz Play.
  • Swap between the characters for a good solid 10 minutes before starting Blitz Play.
  • Lowering all graphical settings.
  • Safe mode as suggested by the GTA 5 Launcher.

I believe I have done my best trying to fix this but it seems to be a game breaking bug that I can not solve on my own.

Any other ideas as to what I might do to work around this?

Got a work around for this. Park your getaway car close to Devin Weston's house here (blue dot). Location. After you make the long trek with the trash truck, you will have to take the truck up the hill a bit before you can blow it up. It wouldn't let me blow it up on the road below. Once you get in the getaway car, drive it to this corner (blue arrow). Wait until the conversation with Michael is over, and you should just instantly switch characters over to Michael. It shouldn't zoom out to the map view at all. Please let me know if this works for you. Good luck!

I just had this same problem. 2 times in a row now it crashes as it is zooming in on Michaels vehicle. Have to completely redo this long mission too.

Well good to hear I'm not the only one having this issue.

I don't really have any more ideas on how to fix this currently, but I'm taking all suggestions. Rational or Travors ideas.
Just did the mission for yet a 7th time and same result. Completely out of ideas on what to do.

Exact same problem here, it's just a game breaking bug for me. Guess it's no more GTA for me until it gets fixed.

Alright I seem to get a break through on my save. I just want to confirm if this works for anybody else. Or maybe I just got lucky.

On my 238th try, as I was going through everything that I might have made the game otherwise confused or something it did not expect. Changed everything and tested a couple of things here and there.

Then I recalled I upgraded my getaway car. Just maybe, this was my mistake I thought. So I blew up the old upgraded car I had called in and just took another car stright from the outside road nearby.

I redid the mission and this time I did not crash.

Just to repeat; I blew up my previous getaway car and replaced it. This stopped my crashing.

Could anyone else confirm if this method works?

I Tried twice with different cars still doesn't work.

I just tried it with a different car in a new location and it didn't work for me either. Maybe there was something else you changed that got it to work?

Hm it is likely. I did use 5 hours just roaming around, finishing side quests and rampage missions. I found a couple of strangers from random events (found Pack-ie (why is his nickname a censord word?) from GTA 4 as well) and what not.

I mean, I did ALL of the side missions that was available to me. Berrys, Celeb collection, all of them. After that I tried to blow up my car and replace it with a new one. No more crashing after that.

I have collected 6 pages of the letter regarding the murder and fell over 1 space part. I doubt the bug is that specific, but who knows.

Did you change the car BEFORE the mission? I.e. did you run back to where you saved your car and blew it up or did you destroy it DURING the mission?

I, for one, thought of this as well, as this seemed to be the only random factor and blew up the car during the mission and just took a parked car but this resulted in a crash again.
