I'm here! :)

Fun fact: Stellar Frontier was going to be used as the title for our space RPG before we acquired the Star Control IP from Accolade/Atari.

I'd buy a Stellar Frontier remake in an instant if it retained the core gameplay.

Yeah, many good late night memories playing that for hours.

Yeah, there was a time that somebody was making a stellar frontier 2.0 but that kinda disappeared. Is anyone even doing anything with it anymore?

I don’t think so. There was too many flaws with the nexus hub that let people hack their stats. Such a simple game shouldn’t be so hard to remake. I just felt so relaxed while playing that game. Takes me back to a simpler interwebz.

I feel if its that hard to change whats there than it's better to just rebuild it from the ground up because i loved messing around in that game, hell even playing by myself with the bots was always fun to me. I just wish i could find another game like stellar frontier.

I think eventually we could do a 64-person fleet battles system for Star Control if there was sufficient interest.
A 64-person fleet battles sounds amazing! I want to know more. Would each player be one core ship? Would co-ordination be done on dischord by team leaders? Would it be two teams of up to 32 players?

I think it’s something we’d want to design together as a community. But I’d prefer to see 64 person servers fighting in a solar system as part of either the Federation (Mu’Kay, etc.), Empire (Scryve) and the third group which will be revealed over the next year.

Honestly the more you can do the things in stellar frontier that you can here the better, as the combination of gameplay mechanics just felt very interesting and you really dont see that sort of thing that often these days.

Thoughts and suggestions for an up to 64 player fleet battles.

To make a 64 player game successfull one has to look at other games with 64 players that work. There is one other real time game that can be played up to 30 players. It is called Lazer Quest. It a lazer tag game where players run around in a multi level maze and tag each other with their lazer gun.

Lazer Quest can be up to thirty players. Most lazer Quest games are free for all games. You get points for each person you tag. When you tag someone they are out of the game for five seconds. During those five seconds they can not tag or be tagged and their scensors are not lit up. In these games players have unlimited lives.

You can do something similar. Players get points for destroying another player's ship. The more fleet points a ship is the more points a player gets for destroying it. The player owning the destroyed ship will be out of the game for 10 seconds in a 30 to 60 player game. During those 10 seconds the destroyed ship will not be able to shoot or be shot and can be moved through. Also, when a ship is destroyed anything it has spawned will despawn. It will also be a different colour to indicate that it is out of the game. In games of less than 30 players the down time can be reduced to five seconds.

In team games points earned would go towards a team score.

Games would end when the Toxic boundary gas encompasses the entire map in game settings with unlimited lives.

I can see it now. Kzanti intimidator/s mining the stern, port, and starboard sides of a Scryve Battle Cruiser.

I know I'm necroing this topic, but is this still a thing? Or an lost idea. I loved Stellar Frontier. My first online game that moved, lol. I was only about 11 at the time, but it was such a lovely game and community.
