Better performance after removing old saves
Hi guys

To get better performance, you might wanna try deleting old saves. My game runs much better after I removed all but the last 3 saves. I now get like +50% fps. :)

Good luck!

I'll believe anything after the whole capslock to beat load screen stuff.

I have 257 saves the game is getting progressively more unstable so I believe it does have something to do with the load of the saves

Yeah I had like 230 and the game was almost unplayable. Now it's much much better.

is there a place in the hard drive to look for them or do i have to delete them one by one ingame?

Push Win+R and paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\SaveData\ then select OK.

Don't erase Profile.bin

I'm not having major issues yet but the further I go I am seeing some drops and slow downs. Will give this a shot.

The save games are loaded only when you open the save/load menu so this will most likely not do much, and even if you feel as if it did it'll most likely be a placebo effect.

You could still try though.

its that way for most games. More files to read takes more time and resources..

Yes but it only happens when you open that menu, it doesn't constantly read your saves, each time you open the save/load menu it loads all your save games all over again.

Well, that's what you'd think but they do indeed have a huge impact. And this is not the only game I've seen with this problem. Cities Skylines is just the same. Try it, you'll see.

But beware, Steam will download all synced saves from the cloud, maybe 40 or so. You will have to delete those again from the main menu. After that restart the game and you're set.

I don't know, it didn't do that for me, I just moved them out from the documents folder and that was it.

There's another thing that helped me a lot. I verified the game cache and Steam downloaded one file. This made it quite a bit better. Then the saves and now it's fine. I have nothing more to complain about.

Yeah I learned this when playing XCOM EW. The game engine can not handle a ton of save games and if you do get more then 15 or 20 of them, and even 20 is too many, then you will find that the engine will crash and your saves will be useless.

Best thing to do is after you get back from a mission, especially if you have auto save turned on, if you are happy with the outcome of the mission then delete any saves that were made during the mission and just keep good safe saves that are at your base and everything is A OK. I try to keep my save count down to 10 to 15 at the very most even deleteing old base saves once I am far enough along that I won't want to go back that far by loading an older save.

To delete saves just do it in game, click LOAD and then highlight them one at a time and delete the ones you don't need.
