Defense Matrix?
Do you think the defense Matrix is worth the research, power, and supplies to build?

The turrets are pretty decent, especially if you get the Quad Turrets upgrade and man the station. Quite a lot of firepower at your hands.

As for cost, it's not particularly expensive, especially considering that this building is mostly a mid-game to late-game investment, when credits aren't really a problem. 4 power fully upgraded, and Turret research is pretty quick (usually instant by the time the building is relevant).

Of course, if one can handle Avenger defense missions without the building, there's no need to get it. It's a crutch, plain and simple, and there's better things to spend credits on.

it would be one of the last things i think about spending my money on tbh.

With Avenger defence being so rare I'd only build a defense matrix if that mission hasn't taken place in that playthrough yet. And even then only if there's nothing more important that could be built in that slot in stead.

Most people will have completed one Defense mission before they have the opportunty or spare resources to build the Defense Matrix. Considering the probability of a second mission is extremely low, it is not worth it for most players.

Even if you haven't completed the Defense mission, I would consider the Defense Matrix a luxury, not a necessity. Even in the mid-game, you have better things to spend your resources on.

I built mine in my Veteran game after an Avenger defence mission and it turned out its only use was to count towards the achievement for having all building slots filled.

Now, if you're doing it on Commander+, then I recommend it completely, when you have the resources. [/quote]

That may also depend on what attackers you get. I've played twice and both times I had Crashers and Pods. Watched another guys game and his thoughest enemy was a mec.

i typically just cheat in credits to build it for the lulz since i always have stupid amounts of power anyway.

If you are on, say, Rookie, then no, you probably won't even encounter a defensive mission, and if you do, it'll be way late in the game, as it was for me. All I had to do was mind control an alien, have him run closer to the pylon, then my snipers destroyed the pylon from my ramp area. Done deal. Aliens never got close.

Now, if you're doing it on Commander+, then I recommend it completely, when you have the resources.

The thing here is, though, if you're playing commander+ you wont have the turrets early game, because there will be far better things to send credits on. Late game, it's similar in difficulty to Veteran if you know what you're doing.
I'd say building it is based more on skill than difficulty; if one is struggling, even on lower difficulties, to survive encounters, then it probably is a decent investment, lest the game end on that mission. Otherwise, unless you're rolling in credits, it's barely worth it.

Never built it yet, never needed it, even if my Avenger Defense missions have around 20~ starting enemies.

Have completed 3 campaigns (admittedly only on rookie and veteran). Never had the defence matrix built before the mission turned up - too many other priorities.

Only time it would have been useful was on my aborted first campaign when although I did complete it, too many troops got killed/injured for me to be able to continue (although might go back and give that campaign one more try now I know what I am doing).

I build it as soon as I have insta turret research, and purposely save the credits and power for it. In legend it's priceless for me. Unless you are upgrading weapons and or armor to the next tier, it's not that expensive, you can keep it unmanned until ufo actually takes off. Last playthroughs I built it after gts, awc, proving, power and before resistance comms.

Defence matrix = completely useless. Dont waste your resources, Commander.

bumping old topic. tried out the turrets.

at max you get 4 of them they shoot twice a round or shoot and overwatch.

their accuracy is not very high which means they have a good chance of destroying cover.

As they don't use cover I expect the enemy will priortize shooting them first.

But I beat the avenger defense in two turns so.... not a priority sure.

Had alot of trouble with the first Defense mission, my 'good' Squad was already heavy damaged from a fight before, and then my rookies and mid-ones fought 20+ enemeys + sectopod. That mission was a real pain in the ass....
Had no turrets there, cuz i thought its 'useless'
