[MAJOR BUG] [WOTC] Can't complete a VIP extraction mission because game won't let me control the VIP
The VIP on this mission can be attacked by ADVENT, can be healed by me, and it can be moved for exactly one turn. After that, the game up and decides that, aside from healing and damaging, it doesn't exist. I can't move them, get them to hunker down, nothing. Is there ANY way around this bug? I literally cannot complete this mission with the game in this state.

I just found out the actual cause after playing around a bit; the VIP is out of actions. And is always out of actions. To quote the XCOM community at large: fix your game, Jake.

Is the VIP panicked?

Using any mods?

You could always just fudge it and use the ttc cheat to move the VIP to the extraction point. Better than having to start a new game because of one bugged out unit.

Sounds like a rare bug that happens sometimes. Not 100% if its base game or mod related. You can use the console to get around it by moving the unit to a different tile.

The unit isn't out of actions, but its unable to path to an other tile (the game inproperly registers them as not being on their current tile? not sure), causing them to be stuck. For some reason I had it happen to SPARKs a lot, altho I was using some mods at the time as well. Think it was related to Bulwark.

Outside of that, I only seen it happen a few times, for example; once to a soldier in Gatecrasher.

Damn Firaxis you suck. It's 2020 outside and the game still has bugs like this one. Happened to me mid game on iron man.

the last ones where i read this problem admited in the end that it was like ever a mod problem, not vanilla game one.

How informative! /sarcasm

it points out that a: a mod is normaly the only source for this "Bug" and b: that threads to this problem exist with the resolve to that matter. you can only blame me for being to lazy (and the linking to such threads ends for me ever in links to other threads instead) to search this thread again, and the guys with the problem must search it themself.

Just had the same issue. It's my 3rd mission in since buying WOTC and now I'm thinking perhaps I shouldn't have... VIP is about 3 tiles from extraction. They are not suffering any effects. I cannot rotate through my squad to them with Tab (it just ignores them) and if I manually select it says "Out of actions!" despite it being the beginning of a new turn.

Yeah unimpressed pretty much sums it up.

There are some rare cases of bugs where the game cant handle something you do with units.

I had a case where an unconsious soldier bled to death while being carried by another soldier exactly at the turn of extraction (or rather at the start of that turn).

Soldier was dead but appeared in my armoury with the ! lvl up sign next to him.

I love XCOM2, but I have had this bug happen to me twice now and it is infuriating. I reached out to Firaxis support last week and was helped, but the solution seems to be to use Console controls to work around it. That really frustrates me. I am left believing that this bug is most likely caused by some Mod I am running, so I am thinking I will restart the game and run it with only cosmetic mods on.
Stardustfire Oct 4, 2024 @ 6:10am
you are aware that a mod that "only changes cosmetics" for you dont necercary only change what you see but other files as well?
The_Admiral Oct 8, 2024 @ 7:45pm
Well, I was hoping that cosmetic mods wouldn’t be the cause of this bug. I certainly could be wrong.
