Not gonna lie, I had this wishlisted, but the Devs going through the reviews trying to get them changed to positive or have people that reviewed negatively refund the game and remove their review has noped me out hard. An echo chamber of good reviews from either people you've had change or remove their negative review, is not a genuine review score. Hard pass for me now.

Hi everyone,

We wanted to step into this thread to address the recent discussions and feedback on the reviews.

First and foremost, we truly apologize for how our recent replies have come across. We understand that our communication has felt wrong to many of you, and for that, we are genuinely sorry.

To be completely honest, the 24 hours since the launch have been incredibly overwhelming. While we started with a lot of excitement, the reality of a launch brings a lot of pressure and intense emotions. Looking back, we realize that the way we communicated was not the right approach, and we didn't handle the situation with the care it deserved.

We’ve been working around the clock to investigate the issues you've been reporting and to get fixes out as quickly as possible. Regarding the comments that we claimed an issue was fixed when it wasn't: please know that we have been replying based on the best of our knowledge at that moment. In many cases, we believed a fix was fully deployed and functional, and it is never our intention to misinform our players.

We also want to be clear: we will no longer be asking anyone to change their negative reviews, and we have also deleted our previous comments. We respect your honesty and appreciate the feedback, even when it’s tough to hear. It helps us make the game better.

Thank you for your patience while we navigate this. We’re heading back to work on the issues you’ve raised, but we wanted to make sure we stopped to say we hear you and we’re sorry for the missteps in our communication.

Please don't hesitate to shout out if there's anything we can support with.

- Marc & Tobi

Oh no.. they're asking for reasonable reviews? Funny.
If someone doesn't like their game, they don't like it. They could dislike it for a reason that resonates with others. Reviews aren't there only so people that wanna glaze the game can do so. Telling someone they can refund the game then maybe remove their negative review isn't looking for "reasonable reviews" it's disingenuous and completely defeats the point of a review system.

One such review simply said they think the game is shallow and not worth the money. There's nothing unreasonable or worth a dev response there, it's just an opinion.

I don't like this kind of behavior either and Valve themselves tell devs not to do it.

I agree on opinion reviews that a dev shouldn't reply to try to persuade the change the reviewer. Or even telling to refund, the reviewer probably will go for a refund themself anyway if they still can.

Though I gave up on watching Steam reviews. As when I did previous I felt like I was watching a just bug reports with almost zero infor to help fix the bugs. On those I don't mind if a dev responds to point out to the location they want bugs to be reported or if the bug is described to say they fixed it.

That was one of the reviews I took issue with, someone had left a negative review because of a bug they were experiencing playing with their friend, Devs had seemingly spoken to them on discord and it'd been worked out that the host restarting would clear the bug.. they've then asked the review to be changed positive.. they haven't fixed the bug at all.. just taught the person how to clear it until it happens again.. if they want the review changed positive in that instance, ask WHEN you have fixed the bug.

Yeah that's fair. The thing about bug reports, that's pretty much what the response system was made for. They make this clear.

Yeah I read the reviews this morning,, especially just releasing today. It’s certainly given me pause to buy. It’s now in my “wait 9 months and see what it’s like then “, and if it’s not improved, I unwish and ignore.
I’ve got so many incomplete and empty games from a few years ago it’s made me have to put this security safe step for my decisions.
It’s saved me with a number of products since I implemented it.
And tbh, why spend money on this atm when Subnautica 2 (which I know will be good) is coming out in 3 days?
May as well spend the money on that.
I’m gonna buy the game just to give it a negative review if this is true lol

That's not at all what is happening. I've seen a few reviews that point out the gameplay as being shallow and the devs say:

Sorry to hear that Outbound is not your cup of tea. But that is of course totally understandable. No hard feelings :)

Feel free to send a support request to the Steam support to get a full refund on your purchase. If you do so, we would appreciate if you would update or remove your negative review. Thanks a lot :)

That's a pretty trashy thing to ask.
earlier mixed, now positives hmm
This attempt to persuade people to change their reviews may backfire. People may end up review bombing the game.

Yeah, positives that I do not trust at this point.

Sorry to hear that you encountered that bug! We in fact just uploaded a hotfix that fixes this particular issue! If that changes your mind about the game, we would greatly appreciate if you could change your review from negative to positive. Sorry again for any inconveniences caused.

- Tobi"

They fixed a bug that was the cause of a negative review... oh the horror!

Also they asked IF the person wanted to change or delete their review after they received a refund because they didn't enjoy the style of gameplay it offers. Which is a perfectly reasonable request. If I try a game out and it does everything as advertised, but I just didn't like the gameplay, then I am not going to leave a negative review if I leave one at all. To me it is unreasonable to leave a bad review because I tried something and personally disliked it to no fault of the game.

Really what Steam needs to do is allow user reviews to use the Informational review option that curators have access to, because the couple of reviews they replied to were mainly people saying the game isn't the type of game THEY enjoy.

Thats what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ review is for, to write your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ opinion on the game.
Hard concept for some I know...

What is the point of having a review system that ranges from positive to negative if we're only gonna justify people glazing the game and singing it's praises? Stop being so fast to blindly defend like a clueless fanboy.

Also read what others in the thread have mentioned, mainly the part about it being against guidelines to try and influence review scores.
