ID engine worst game engine of all time
During cinematics when the camera changes to a new scene there is an awful texture streaming delay on various surfaces. I remember this exact same thing happening in RAGE and WOLFENSTEIN... And lets be honest, rage and wolfenstein are far from the smoothest games. They are just clunky games all around.

Whenever i play games i run ALL_CPU_METER to gauge how well a game engine utilizes multiple cores, and in the past few years id say about 99% of all the name brand games take advantage of multiple cores.. The only games that have surprised me by not utilizing multiple cores are the ID engine games and the ARMA engine games (arma2,arma3, and dayz)

While running the evil within, one core runs at 80% while all the others sit idle at 10% or below.. (Surpisingly even the laughable game WARZ has multiple-core support and manages to runs all cores at an even 40-60%.)

Pretty unacceptable considering bethesdas older game engines support multiple core usage just fine.

The next thing that I look at is how much a GPU core a game is utilizing. Usually the higher the better. You can tell a game is not optimized if it has low gpu usage WHILE the framerate is also low at the same time. Because that shows that little to no 3D hardware acceleration is taking place.. Again the only games i have seen with this issue in the recent past is the arma and ID engine games.

I can give the ARMA engine a pass for being based on legacy software, but remember how much bethesda hyped the ID engine? Making it seem like one of the best engines of all time? RAGE did not even have graphic options upon launch.

Given the fact that 60% of the damn screen is taken up by black bars, you would think achieving 60fps would not be an issue. But to my surprise the game's framerate was all over the place. I've seen it go from 60 down to 24.. And to see my video card only being used 40% while the game is running at 24fps is quite a pity to say the least.

I have a radeon R9 290X that can run RYSE son of rome at 140fps no joke. And that game looks far superior to the evil within.

To have to physically alter launch parameters and console commands just to get a game to function normally is unacceptable..

And not only that, but once you remove the FPS cap you lose all your rights to v-sync. And the developers even inform you to "Run 60fps at your own risk".. So they basically created this game KNOWING it lacks the proper PC standards. That is messed up.

It would be naive to expect AAA publishers to release a proper PC port.. I think its about time steam needs to be put in the hot-seat. Steam is rated neck and neck with xbox and playstation for most popular gaming platform So why do microsoft and sony have quality control inspections but steam does not? Im tired of steam never doing anything. It just exists.

If you want to remove the black bars.. This is what your fov is going to look like.. This game should be removed from steam and all customers refunded immediately. After that a public apology should be dispatched to everyone for insulting their intelligence and wasting their time.

The big deal with the IDtech5 was the texture streaming directly to memory. Texture data is why you have the 50gb install. Also the engine has limitations like low res texture's when you're in close. It does well with static lighting but sucks at dynamic. Supposedly it makes cross-platform development easier. Carmack couldve made it better but its been a long while since he's been interested in actually making games. He's not even at ID anymore. The engine was made by ID mostly for FPS type games.

I had some minor issues running wolfienstien .. soon as I got a a GTX 970 everything runs smooth .. the ID engine loooks amazing when you have the right hardware . but yeah it demands expemesive hardware
i7 cpu 8 gigs sys ram / gtx 970 5 gigs vid ram .. runs good but cost is high for the hardware
my AMD PC just frezzes when I try to play Wolfeienstien
Phenome II x4 20 cpu 8 gigs sys ram / AMD 7770 HD 2 gigs vid ram . meets min requirements but can't run it worth a dam

Really? I've seen much better looking games without clunky, miserable, performance.. I've found so many low-res texture surfaces in RAGE, and i even made a gamespot topic called "Wolfenstein low res textures?"

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/pc-mac-discussion-1000004/wolfenstein-the-new-order-low-resolution-textures-31295295/

The first thing i noticed when i played The new order was, wow this game runs clunky, has texture streaming issues, and has the worst v-sync of all time.

And im finding various low res textures in the evil within now as well
And not only that but the evil within looks like crap as well, i've never seen a more blurry game in my life.. Some places look crisp and nice but outside looks like hell
I think you're having hardware problems and blaming the game engine .. ID tech 5 engine looks pretty amazing when running maxed out ..

ha ha nice try troll! Fact is the port is extremely suboptimal.

Theres always one d0uche who says this

Hundreds of people complaining isn't a coincidence .I can play any of todays modern games on my pc at 120fps with my 120hz monitor yet the evil within struggles to get to 30
If the game engine is used on over a million different PC's and consoles and a few hundred whiners complain .. I call that a success..
that's about 0,001 percent of the consumers who are complaining ..

Thats funny how you just made up a statistic on the spot like that

that's funny I'm using you're statistics..
you did just say

Hundreds of people complaining isn't a coincidence .I can play any of todays modern games on my pc at 120fps with my 120hz monitor yet the evil within struggles to get to 30

and I'm off a decimal it's 0.001
Lol what? Where are you getting 0.001% from? You are funny.

There are 463 positive reviews and 198 negative reviews. Thats almost half of the people complaining
You have no concept of what you're saying do you ? Im not even trying to disagree with you I'm just pointing out how off you are on the amounts .. The Id Tech 5 engine is powering games that are on over 1 million different systems . if you say a few hundred people are upset then you're talking about such a low percentage that your complaints are irrelevant ..
again I'm not even dissagreeing with I'm pointing out how useless your argument is based on what you're posting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dA3AfX0FojI

Video is a quad 1.33Ghz Intel Atom, with around 350Mhz Intel HD video, running the engine.

Engine is fine.

Also idTech5 has always used all 8 of my threads.
