You might have already heard that City of Steam is closing, and that's true – payment service has already been suspended, and game servers will close down for good on JANUARY 31st, 2016. It was a tough decision to make, but the browser game space is changing rapidly, we have to take this step.

We really want to thank the community for your years of support, and there are a few ways we're planning to do that:

1) All City of Steam players will receive 30,000 Electrum per day until server shutdown. There's still time to upgrade your characters to their utmost potential, and to try things you've never thought of before, be sure to enjoy!

2) You may have heard about our new title, Heroes of Skyrealm . All City of Steam players will automatically secure an exclusive in-game bonus pack for Heroes of Skyrealm at release. Just make sure to copy down your character name and server info, then we'll send you a code to help you get started on your new adventure. If you haven't checked out the previews on the Heroes of Skyrealm Facebook page yet, you are welcomed to drop by at any time!

3) Even though Heroes of Skyrealm is an independent project, and Skyrealm is its own world, the influence of the World Machine can still be felt. Meet Servo!

Dear City of Steam players,

It’s been an amazing ride. We can’t believe it’s been over six years – from the first days of early prototypes, to sharing alpha builds with a growing worldwide audience, to opening landmarks like the Refuge, the Founders’ Annex, the Vault, and Arkadia itself.

Support from our fans has guided us from the very beginning. Without you, we might never have made it through the Steam Greenlight process, which led to our widest release in 2014.

But we’re sorry to say that this chapter of The New Epoch is coming to an end. A number of factors went into this decision, the decline of Unity support in the browser is one of them – Google Chrome no longer supports NPAPI plugins like the Unity Webplayer, and Microsoft's next browser, Edge, won't either.

Suspension of payment services for City of Steam on all platforms will start on Wednesday, January 13th, 2016 (00:00AM EST, 06:00AM, CET), and full server shutdown will follow two to three weeks after that. In the meantime, though, the game will continue to run as usual.

But even though City of Steam is closing, Mechanist’s spirit of adventure is alive and well – and we encourage CoS fans to check out our upcoming mobile action RPG, Heroes of Skyrealm (https://www.facebook.com/HeroesofSkyrealm/). Set in an all-new world, Heroes of Skyrealm challenges players to build a team of over 25 legendary heroes to fight evil from a fully upgradeable aerial fortress.

How does having your own airship sound? Soon, you’ll be able to do just that – and with single-player missions, real-time online co-op, and a full array of PvP modes, the gameplay possibilities are nearly endless. Previews have already begun on our Facebook page, but there’s so much more to come!

To everyone who has enjoyed City of Steam over the years: thank you. We've learned a lot over the past six years about what makes MMOs work, and the Mechanist community has been a huge part of that.

And as we move on to the next adventure, we’ll always remember where we came from – and we hope you’ll join us.

City of Steam: Arkadia will be temporarily offline beginning at 8:00PM Eastern Standard Time (EST) on January 27th. This downtime includes the game, as well as the website and forums, in order to migrate the server and perform overall maintenance on the data to optimize your gaming experience.

Finally we are bidding farewell to 2014 and ushering in a brand new 2015. A million thanks go out to all CoS players for building up such a vibrant community since the game re-launched almost a year ago.

2014 means a lot to City of Steam, we got greenlit on Steam, expanded CoS to European regions and reached more players in Europe. We’ve been seeing the fastest growth for City of Steam ever in this year as well, cooperating with great platforms like Facebook, Armor Games, Yahoo and Wildtangent give CoS the opportunity to cover most of the players in the west. We’d like to thank all our partners for efforts they have done, and the sure thing is, there is still quite a lot of potential out there in the upcoming 2015! But firstly, it’s time to light the undiscovered 2015 up with some awesome events.


During the 3-day long (starting from 00:00 server time November 30th) party, players who power their characters up will receive 50% bonus for all purchased Electrum. Hello all EU players,

The time to consolidate the European community in Nexus has come. We’ve decided to continue the server consolidation and merge the existing EU servers.

Here is when:


After the mergence, to ensure the gaming experience consistently smooth, player data of EU3 will be moved to amalgamate with those of EU1 and EU2, events will become more fun and engaged. Months of running has made data of the EU reach certain volume level, the estimated down time for completing the server merge will be around 4 hours.

Players of all 3 EU servers can still play CoS through clicking on relevant icons placed on the server page. In order to avoid possible name repeat issue, each character of the merged European server will have a tag (s4_character1, s5_character2 and s6_character3) added up to tell which server they originally come from.

Considering players on EU3 fell behind for several months due to server launch difference, to make them well prepared for the upcoming amalgamation, starting from today, all EU3 players will secure a Server Consolidation Package for one week in a row (except for the one-off Subscription). The guaranteed package has the following no-strings-attached items:
