Yes, this helps everyone.

and then we could just direct a person to the pinned thread on the odd chance that someone asks for multiplayer. ;)

Agreed. Getting a bit tired of people continuously asking about this instead of using the "Search this topic" option.

That's how it works. And there is only a minimal chance, that the people, who don't read the system requirements, don't use the search function and don't read the pinned threads are all of the same kind. lol.

There actually was a "multiplayer thread" pinned, but got removed... Such a thread would be nice, but I think it wouldn't change that much.

The reason there is not an 'absolute / authoritative' answer regarding multiplayer is that the team really doesn't have one. Because of the way Unknown Worlds works (that is, how our decision making process functions) absolute long term decisions are very rarely set in stone.

There are people on the team that really, really want multiplayer. There are people on the team who really, really do not want multiplayer (myself included). In this context, 'want' means 'desire to implement a feature given known constraints, risks, costs and benefits' not 'that feature would be cool.'

At the moment, the prevailing decision appears to be 'no multiplayer.' That is, those that do not want multiplayer have made the most convincing case, at this time. The technical structure of Subnautica continues to develop along a path that makes very few, if any concessions to the possibility of networked play.

In future, those who do want multiplayer may sway the team consensus. At this time that is probably an unlikely outcome, but not an impossible one.

Someone needs to make a program that analyzes all the tweets from sn devs and updates a "GENERAL CONSENSUS" page with either positive, neutral or negative.
Btw the page has to be a literal blank white page with no title and only the one word in comic sans.

Well, the main point of the issue is that, there's no way the character would be the ONLY survivor of the Aurora crash. So, multiplayer would fill that niche.

Excellent point, Totally Lemon. I'm wary of adding lots of stickies to the forum. I have a hypothesis: "The number of people that read stickies is inversely proportional to the number of stickies stuck!"

So, I've removed the old 'Experimental Branch' sticky and created this one: http://steamcommunity.com/app/264710/discussions/0/598198356185742948/

Do you reckon we could use this as a reply to future multiplayer threads?

With that being said, it is a rare case for a developer to return to multiplayer while having laid the framework for a single-player game. The further the team drifts away from the concept, the costier implementing it would be (since some concepts, like animation and physics, need at least some work to operate in a network enviroment). Subnautica would have to do outstandingly in order to 'sway the minds of the developers'

While I personally appreciate the no-promises policy, I'm starting to suspect you guys are trying to go overboard the other way, and stray from a 'definitive no' at all. Answering 'maybe' to every feature will cost you a lot of broken dreams and hopes further down the line.

I understand this is not a "Multiplayer Request Thread" as the person above clearly stated, and im not requesting MP, but I am going to say this...Subnautica is a great game, but its a game thats meant to be played with people, its a survival game through and through, and even though I absolutely love the game, I dont play it anymore, because of the simple fact that it gets boring fast when you dont have anyone else playing with you. There has been numerous situtations where friends and I would be sitting there trying to think of good games we could all play together and so many times the topic of Subnautica having MP has come up between us all. Not trying to force any decisions or "request MP" but having MP would increase replayability by so much!

Everything is better with friends, thats why you RARELY see SP only games anymore. Subnautica is no exception!

The response from the developer of Subnautica has stated Severe cold and inhuman response to Our Children, customers all over the globe; and says sadly sadly NO TO MULTIPLAYER. The vague answer is conscious from developer of Subnautica's side - an elusive, manipulative and inaccurate way to answer - to keep on Your-interest ** and to give you a false hope, Your-hope ** so You-continues ** with promoting the game Subnautica for them!. The developer will use Your-advertising ** and Your-Interest ** BEFORE YOU REALIZE THAT THERE IS NO MULTIPLAYER ANYWAY !! NOTHING IN THE GAME IS INTENDED FOR MULTIPLAYER. NOT A SINGLE PROGRAMMING HAS MULTIPLAYER IN THE APPLICATIONS NO. The developer of Subnautica have responded! THEIR HONEST ANSWER IS: NO MULTIPLAYER

Go to http://www.freelang.net/expressions/no.php for the word: NO (in all languages in the world).

Are you a troll or are you actually this livid over there being no multiplayer

MP should only be made at the end to not make the core game bad (this is true for every game except MP only games)

Multiplayer is the future man. People wanna play games with each other when there's no story or enthralling content to keep them interested; you could almost go as far to say that single player games like this are obsolete. Games need multiplayer to enhance gameplay and game life. You CAN play a game too long, and if you add the ability to incoporate your friends into the game, you lengthen that game's lifespan by at least double that of it's single player predecessor. Not to mention, do you know how many times I've gotten friends to buy a game just by saying, "its fun and we can play together." That phrase right there is the kind of promotion that has easily added thousands of hours and sales to games over the decades. Hear me out Unknown Worlds, you're only holding this game back by not adding multiplayer. Think of where Minecraft would be (or wouldn't be) without multiplayer. You're not thinking long term here; this game, 7 months after you release the full version, will never be touched again by anyone unless you add mulitplayer.
