Whats with all the non-lethal stuff?
Ok, so I am sorta confused at all the non-lethal items that are in the game to fend off preditors and the only lethal thing I know of is the knife, So I am confused.

Is it lore baised? because for all I know something shot/emp'd your ship and thats why you crash in the first place. If the "company" or whatever your character works for does not approve of ruining the ecosystem of this beautiful planet then I say BALLS to that! your ship is making damn well sure to ruin the ecosystem by crashing into the planet, leaking radation(at least the repears like it) and exploding multiple times sending random crap into the vast sea, whats a few more fish corpses gonna do(no telling how much harm you are doing already with the simple act of removing a floater from a rock, that could of been another floating island in a few thousand years D: )

Soooo, anyone wanna explain to me why this is? (probably just a dev choice to prevent you from killing everything and to always make you fear the random bone shark)but if its a dev thing then i would like to know

P.S. Put some gunpowder in that freaking torpedo man :D it shoots mini whirl pools at an aquatic creature man, I am sure it can shoot♥♥♥♥♥♥that kills at LEAST a boneshark and maybe stun/tick off a reaper

I haven't read all the comments here, but I'll chime in here, as I'm the main reason we don't have violent/weapons in the game.

Subnautica was being birthed right around the time of the Sandy Hook shooting. This was a particularly nasty shooting, although many people don't realize America has school shootings every day. Every. Single. Day.

(5/8/16 UPDATE: I meant to say "mass" shootings, not "school" shootings: http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting and http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shootings/2015)

Yet, for reasons I cannot understand, our people and the corporations that influence our country want to continue making it easy for people to get, carry and use pistols, semi-automatic and fully-automatic weapons.

I've never believed that video game violence creates more real-world violence. But I couldn't just sit by and "add more guns" to the world either.

So Subnautica is one vote towards a world with less guns. A reminder that there is another way forward. One where we use non-violent and more creative solutions to solve our problems. One where we are not at the top of the food chain.

Wow... That's amazing. I understand where you're coming from, but I personally don't agree with some of your opinions about real life. But that isn't needed here.
I've always felt that this game was never meant to have weapons, and now that I've seen why, my opinion has been strengthened.

Easy availability for buy guns/anyone can use guns for defend their property it is kinda wrong i think.

I don't think this post is helping your cause at all since it is devoid of any kind of logic.

I'm totally fine with non-violent goals such as research being the main objective of the game and that's more than sufficient a reason.

This whole mass-shootings deal makes no sense, because we already have means to defend ourselves in game, and we're talking about sci-fi weaponry and harpoons, neither of which have killed more teenagers than knives and vehicles, which are both perfectly usable tools of death in game.

I also believe that your vote toward a world with less guns is a nice idea, but completely out of place when we're talking about the imaginary world of subnautica where everything wants to eat you.

As for not being the top of the foodchain, are you saying there are creatures out there with a better cyclops than mine? If so i'm looking forward to it.

While I respectfully acknowledge and understand where you're coming from (I distinctly remember what I was doing when that happened), I will say two opposing things on this.

1. Yes it is too easy to get access to guns (especially for criminals or the mentally unwell), and there should be more thorough background checks on people before getting weapons.

2. People judge the small amount (by comparison) of people who commit crimes using guns as the majority, even though the majority never actually use their gun or use it for self defense, hunting, or even for show like Skeet Shooting.

I will agree that we don't need an excessive amount of weapons in Subnautica, but instead of lethal weapons could we at least look at the non-lethal alternatives and potentially some more of those? Like a pod launcher that could launch Gasopod Gas Canisters, Flares, etc. Or being able to build an energy fence around our bases, things like that

Don't make this into a gun law debate, because every 15 year old on these forums will write an essay about it. And i personally can't stand it when any of you try to speak like grownups.

Couldn't agree more. Not all of us are asking for pure weapons, guns, nukes, etc. Only an alternative that adds variety and not feel forced.

actually, in experimental mode, the aruora is a mining ship, sooo it kind of will destroy the ecosystem...

If you want to get technical, getting terraformed probably isn't that great for indigenous lifeforms, either.
