Do items dropped in crater's edge get destroyed?
Or do they reappear near the starting lifepod the way the player does if they descend the 8000+ meters to the end of the map?

I've dropped items there before (they fall very slowly) but I've never noticed if they fell all the way or observed what happened to them once reaching the bottom of the map. This would theoretically have some game play value for transporting items from the edge of the map if they did remain after falling.

Seeing as if you take a vehicle down to the teleport point it's only you that gets sent back it's safe to say they will likely just keep falling until they despawn.

If you want an easy way to transport items from the edge of the map to somewhere near your lifepod and it's more than you can carry on your person, get a cyclops. Then fill it with lockers.

Are you sure vehicles despawn? I've gone down that far with the PRAWN and don't recall that happening. Same thing when I went 8K meters away from the start along the ocean's surface with the Seamoth. We were both happily teleported back.

the problem Im having is that since I installed the game on a external hard drive instead of a SSD, the items load faster than the terrain collision and they fall through the map. I dont know if they just permanently despawn or get teleported back up to 0m which would be a cool fix

There's bound to be a great accumulation of great treasures dropped over the Crater edge by overly optimistic survivors. Time to get your fins and nose-clip on I'd say.

To definitively respond to my own question from 2.5 years ago, no, they don't get destroyed. They also don't fall or move once you're about 50-60 meters away, so the idea of throwing resources off the crater's edge to get them back to the center of the map won't work.

8192 isn't the limit for resources.

The map is a 4096x4096x4096 cube, and if you leave a resource out of this cube, it won't be saved. Remember that the cellscache bounds are 0-0-0 to 25-25-25. If you're out of this, the game won't register them.

You'll also see a different behavior is you're close to the limit with the predators, they won't attack, that's the way it's coded.

Hey @Ignis, would you mind PMing me? Just like to follow up on that request I made a few months back Ta.
