It's good practice to back up your statements when you make them. Thanks for the links, but they really should have been in the OP.
Because it's not like practically every online service ever is accompanied by a statement along the lines of "you will never be asked for personal information by one of our employees" with the implicit intention of encouraging people to be as careful as possible about this sort of thing. It's not like fraudulent practices aren't rampant on the internet or anything. God forbid people try to practice caution.
inb4 irrelevant statement about Google's ease of use - I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you make a statement, it's nobody's responsibility but yours to back it up. I'm not trying to be antagonistic in saying that, by the way. I'm just being blunt.
