Alien Containment; Boneshark
As I said in the title, I somehow found a boneshark egg and didn't realise until it hatched. Is this a bad idea?

Creatures raised in containment are passive to the player. Raise a ton of them and use them as guard dogs for your base.

As said when in the containment they won't attack you or anything else in there (the same it true if you plant a tigerplant in there, unlike any other time you plant them) but creatures released into open waters are often known to turn hostile to the player, if the normal wild ones would also be hostile.

There's been a few posts on these forums of people asking how do the solve the problem of now having a base covered on all sides by things that they bred (if I remember right, the last one was crabsquids), then released and now find want to eat them.
So just release one or two at first and see if you loose a limb or two before you release them en-masse.

Though on that same note, I have heard fun things about breeding mesmers and then releasing them en-masse in an area warpers like to patrol. Because everything in this game hates warpers.

Also. Breed crashfish. Grab a load of them. Get out a propulsion cannon and hit "F" to load the crashfish in. Now make all the things explode.
And people say this game doesn't have weapons.

i somehow took this to the next level. now i have turned my world into a zoo full of the most dangerous creatures i could find. feels good to wake up every morning to the shrieks of crabsquids and bonesharks fighting with my lava lizards.

You can also do it with gasopods gas pods (like the torpedoes but far more spammable. And easier to hit with).
It also makes for a much, much (muchmuchmuch) safer way to gather them up without gassing yourself.

Or if giving them an acid trip is more you style, shoot acid mushrooms at them.

Oooor are you more a "get off my underwater lawn you dam stalker kids!" person? Then you can shoot rocksalt at them.
In that you are literally shooting a rock, made of salt, at them.

I know how you feel. I still remember the day I saw a youtube video of someone using it to catch fish back in the EA days.
I. Literally. Facepalmed. It just seemed so obvious but not once had it occurred to me.

just saw a video and remembered that the propulsion arm for the prawn suit exists. fircc firing individual gas pods, ill use the whole gasopod as a weapon instead
Fohshizle Feb 21, 2019 @ 9:41am
use grav trap + stasis rifle to ez mode collect fish for hot knifing WHILE CARRYING GRAV TRAP WITH PRAWN Propulsionarm.

Also consider doing this to collect (minus rifle) gasopod pods.

Cheers

The main problem with using the grav trap for the gas pods, if they have a bad habit of still going off after the trap gets them. Which, as you were most likely trying to grab one at the time, will normally be all at once. In your face.

I learned that one the hard way.

The cannon lets you just grab them from the beam itself (so long as you don't get the grab and shoot buttons mixed up).

Oh I forgot to say before. You can also use the prawns propulsion cannon arm to shoot stuff. Just load them into the prawns storage and use Alt+F (at least the wiki says it's that. Would explain why I could never get it to work :steamfacepalm:).

Do you actually load it in like ammo, or do you need to put it in front of you to fire?

Hit "F" while holding it to see the options (if any) of what you can load into it. Then select the one you want the same way you would have when swapping out the batteries.

wait, so are you saying you can LOAD stuff into the cannon? like, you can keep the stuff in there to fire when you feel like it? im really friccing confused about the propulsion cannon, ima go watch a vid to see how the fricc this thing works and to what extent it can be deadly

wiki: 'The player can also load an item from their inventory into the Propulsion Cannon by pressing F' 'Once an object is loaded, the player can launch the object by pressing RMB'

Yes. As I said all the way back up there?/\

You can breed crashfish for the sole purpose of "making all the things explode".
